iKota Language

Kota, also called Ikôta or iKota, is an African language spoken by the Bakota people. It is spoken mainly in Ogooué-Ivindo Province in north-eastern Gabon, and in some areas of the Republic of Congo.

Ikota Gospel of Mark

The first book of the Bible in iKota was the Gospel of Mark called in French: Évangile selon Saint Marc traduit dans la langue des Ikôta (Gabon). It was translated by Samuel Galley of the Paris Evangelical Missionary Society.

It was published as: Ntandô mwa mpalé mwa Yésu-Krist, mwana nzambé, Mark añgw’a téndé. The publication included chapter and section headings. The iKota Gospel of Mark was published by Société Biblique Britannique et Étrangère, Paris (the British and Foreign Bible Society) in 1938. It was printed by Billings and Sons Ltd, of Guildford and Esher.

Digital Edition

The iKota Gospel of Mark was digitised from an original copy in the British and Foreign Bible Society archives in Cambridge. It was digitised with the help of MissionAssist, for the Bible Society of Gabon in September 2019. This is a historical text maintained by the British and Foreign Bible Society.
