7
1 Then#Or “And” Yahweh said to Noah, “Go—you and all your household—into the ark, for I have seen you are righteous before me in this generation. 2From all the clean animals you must take for yourself seven pairs,#Literally “seven, seven” a male and its mate. And from the animals that are not clean you must take two, a male and its mate, 3as well as from the birds of heaven#Or “the sky” seven pairs,#Literally “seven, seven” male and female, to keep their kind alive#Literally “to keep seed alive” on the face of the earth. 4For within seven days#Literally “to seven days still” I will send rain upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. And I will blot out all the living creatures that I have made from upon the face of the ground.” 5And Noah did according to all that Yahweh commanded him.
The Flood
6Noah was six hundred years old#Literally “was a son of six hundred years” when#Or “and” the flood waters came upon the earth. 7And Noah and his sons and his wife, and the wives of his sons with him, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8Of clean animals, and of animals which are not clean, and of the birds, and everything that creeps upon the ground, 9two of each#Literally “two, two” went to Noah, into the ark, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10And it happened that after seven days the waters of the flood came over the earth. 11In the six hundredth year of the life of Noah, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month—on that day all the springs of the great deep were split open, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12And the rain came upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13On this same day, Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and the wife of Noah and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark, 14they and all the living creatures according to their#Or “its” kind, and all the domesticated animals according to their#Or “its” kind, and all the creatures that creep upon the earth according to their#Or “its” kind, all the birds according to their#Or “its” kind, every winged creature. 15And they came to Noah to the ark, two of each,#Literally “two, two” from every living thing in which was the breath of life. 16And those that came, male and female, of every living thing, came as God had commanded him. And Yahweh shut the door behind him. 17And the flood came forty days and forty nights upon the earth. And the waters increased, and lifted the ark, and it rose up from the earth. 18And the waters prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth. And the ark went upon the surface#Hebrew “face” of the waters. 19And the waters prevailed overwhelmingly#Literally “very very” upon the earth, and they covered all the high mountains which were under the entire heaven.#Or “the sky” 20The waters swelled fifteen cubits above the mountains, covering them.#Literally “Fifteen cubits above the waters swelled, and they covered the mountains” 21And every living thing that moved on the earth perished—the birds, and the domesticated animals, and the wild animals, and everything that swarmed on the earth, and all humankind. 22Everything in whose nostrils was the breath of life,#Literally “a breath of spirit of life” among all that was on dry land, died. 23And he#In context, God blotted out every living thing upon the surface of the ground, from humankind, to animals, to creeping things, and to the birds of heaven;#Or “the sky” they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained. 24And the waters prevailed over the earth one hundred and fifty days.

1Yahweh said to Noah, “Come with all of your household into the ship, for I have seen your righteousness before me in this generation. 2You shall take seven pairs of every clean animal with you, the male and his female. Of the animals that are not clean, take two, the male and his female. 3Also of the birds of the sky, seven and seven, male and female, to keep seed alive on the surface of all the earth. 4In seven days, I will cause it to rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights. I will destroy every living thing that I have made from the surface of the ground.”
5Noah did everything that Yahweh commanded him.
6Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came on the earth. 7Noah went into the ship with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, because of the floodwaters. 8Clean animals, unclean animals, birds, and everything that creeps on the ground 9went by pairs to Noah into the ship, male and female, as God commanded Noah. 10After the seven days, the floodwaters came on the earth. 11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep were burst open, and the sky’s windows were opened. 12It rained on the earth forty days and forty nights.
13In the same day Noah, and Shem, Ham, and Japheth—the sons of Noah—and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered into the ship— 14they, and every animal after its kind, all the livestock after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. 15Pairs from all flesh with the breath of life in them went into the ship to Noah. 16Those who went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God commanded him; then Yahweh shut him in. 17The flood was forty days on the earth. The waters increased, and lifted up the ship, and it was lifted up above the earth. 18The waters rose, and increased greatly on the earth; and the ship floated on the surface of the waters. 19The waters rose very high on the earth. All the high mountains that were under the whole sky were covered. 20The waters rose fifteen cubits#A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters. higher, and the mountains were covered. 21All flesh died that moved on the earth, including birds, livestock, animals, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man. 22All on the dry land, in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23Every living thing was destroyed that was on the surface of the ground, including man, livestock, creeping things, and birds of the sky. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ship. 24The waters flooded the earth one hundred fifty days.
