The Fall
1Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal#Literally “animal of the field” which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God indeed say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, 3but from the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God said, ‘You shall not eat from it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die’.” 4But the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not surely die. 5For God knows that on the day you both eat from it, then your eyes will be opened and you both shall be like gods,#The plural is in the context of v. 22 “one of us” and the plural suffix pronouns 〚“you all”〛 throughout the verse knowing good and evil.” 6When#Or “And” the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and the tree was desirable to make one wise, then#Or “and” she took from its fruit and she ate. And she gave it also to her husband with her, and he ate. 7Then#Or “And” the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed together fig leaves and they made for themselves coverings.
8Then#Or “And” they heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden at the windy time of day.#Literally “at the wind of the day” And the man#“The man” indicates the noun is singular and occurs with the definite article and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. 9And Yahweh God called to the man#“The man” indicates the noun is singular and occurs with the definite article and said to him, “Where are you?” 10And he replied,#Literally “And he said”; “replied” distinguishes Adam as the speaker “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid because I am naked, so I hid myself.” 11Then he#That is, Yahweh God asked,#Or “said” “Who told you that you were naked? “Because you have done this,
you will be cursed
more than any domesticated animal
and more than any wild animal.#Literally “animal of the earth/land”
On your belly you shall go
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15And I will put hostility
between you and between the woman,
and between your offspring#Literally “seed” and between her offspring;#Literally “seed”
he will strike you on the head,
and you will strike him on the heel.”
16To the woman he said,
“I will greatly increase
your pain in childbearing;#Literally “your pain and your childbearing”

And to your husband shall be your desire.
And he shall rule over you.”

all the days of your life.
18And thorns and thistles shall sprout for you,
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
19By the sweat of your brow#Literally “your face”
you shall eat bread,
until your return to the ground.
For from it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”
20And the man#“The man” indicates the noun is singular and occurs with the definite article named#Literally “called the name” his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all life. 21And Yahweh God made for Adam#The noun lacks the definite article and is taken as a proper noun in this context and for his wife garments of skin, and he clothed them.
22And Yahweh God said, “Look—the man has become as one of us, to know good and evil. What if#Literally “And now lest” he stretches out his hand and takes also from the tree of life and eats, and lives forever?” 23And Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. 24So#Or “And” he drove the man out, and placed cherubim east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming, turning sword#Literally “a flame of the sword which was turning” to guard the way to the tree of life.

Rev 12.9; 20.2 Now the snake was the most cunning animal that the LORD God had made. The snake asked the woman, “Did God really tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?”
2“We may eat the fruit of any tree in the garden,” the woman answered, 3“except the tree in the middle of it. God told us not to eat the fruit of that tree or even touch it; if we do, we will die.”
4The snake replied, “That's not true; you will not die. 5God said that, because he knows that when you eat it you will be like God#3.5 God; or the gods. and know what is good and what is bad.”#3.5 know what is good and what is bad; or know everything.
6The woman saw how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, and he also ate it. 7As soon as they had eaten it, they were given understanding and realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and covered themselves.
8That evening they heard the LORD God walking in the garden, and they hid from him among the trees. 9But the LORD God called out to the man, “Where are you?”
10He answered, “I heard you in the garden; I was afraid and hid from you, because I was naked.”
11“Who told you that you were naked?” God asked. “Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?”
12The man answered, “The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”

2 Cor 11.3; 1 Tim 2.14 The LORD God asked the woman, “Why did you do this?”
She replied, “The snake tricked me into eating it.”
God Pronounces Judgement
14Then the LORD God said to the snake, “You will be punished for this; you alone of all the animals must bear this curse: from now on you will crawl on your belly, and you will have to eat dust as long as you live. 15#Rev 12.17I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring's#3.15 her offspring's; or their. heel.”
16And he said to the woman, “I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth. In spite of this, you will still have desire for your husband, yet you will be subject to him.”

Heb 6.8
And he said to the man, “You listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you. 18It will produce weeds and thorns, and you will have to eat wild plants. 19You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again.”
20Adam#3.20 Adam: This name in Hebrew means “humanity”. named his wife Eve,#3.20 Eve: This name sounds similar to the Hebrew word for “living”, which is rendered in this context as “human beings”. because she was the mother of all human beings. 21And the LORD God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife, and he clothed them.

Rev 22.14
Then the LORD God said, “Now the man has become like one of us and has knowledge of what is good and what is bad.#3.22 knowledge of what is good and what is bad; or knowledge of everything. He must not be allowed to take fruit from the tree that gives life, eat it, and live for ever.” 23So the LORD God sent him out of the Garden of Eden and made him cultivate the soil from which he had been formed. 24Then at the east side of the garden he put living creatures#3.24 living creatures: See Word List. and a flaming sword which turned in all directions. This was to keep anyone from coming near the tree that gives life.
