Joy in the Morning
A psalm; a dedication song for the house. Davidic.
1I will exalt You, Lord,
because You have lifted me up # Ps 3:3
and have not allowed my enemies
to triumph over me. # Ps 25:2; 35:19
2Lord my God,
I cried to You for help, and You healed me. # Ps 88:13
3Lord, You brought me up from Sheol; # Ps 86:13
You spared me from among those
going down # Some Hb mss, LXX, Theod, Orig, Syr; other Hb mss, Aq, Sym, Tg, Jer read from going down to the Pit. # Ps 28:1; 88:4; 143:7
4Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones,
and praise His holy name. # Ps 50:5; 149:1
5For His anger lasts only a moment,
but His favor, a lifetime.
Weeping may spend the night,
but there is joy in the morning. # Ps 103:9; Is 54:7-8; 2Co 4:17
6When I was secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.” # Ps 10:6; 62:2,6
7Lord, when You showed Your favor,
You made me stand like a strong mountain; # Ps 20:8
when You hid Your face, I was terrified. # Ps 104:29
8Lord, I called to You;
I sought favor from my Lord: # Ps 119:58
9“What gain is there in my death,
if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise You?
Will it proclaim Your truth? # Ps 6:5; 88:10-12
10Lord, listen and be gracious to me;
Lord, be my helper.” # Ps 4:1; 27:7
11You turned my lament into dancing;
You removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness, # Ec 3:4; Is 61:10; Jr 31:13
12so that I can sing to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise You forever. # Ps 44:8; 108:1
