The Nativity of the Messiah
18The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. # Mt 12:46; Lk 1:27,35 19So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, # Mt 13:17; Mk 10:12; Lk 2:36; 1Co 14:35; 2Co 11:2; Gl 4:27 and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly. # Dt 22:20-24; 24:1-4; Mt 2:7; Lk 16:18; Jn 8:4-5
20But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. # 2Ch 1:1; Mt 13:49; 27:19; Jn 6:20; Rm 1:3 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, # Jesus is the Gk form of the Hb name “Joshua,” which = “The Lord saves” or “Yahweh saves.” # Lk 1:31; 2:21; Jn 10:25; 1Jn 2:12 because He will save His people from their sins.” # Lk 2:11; Jn 1:29; Ac 4:12; 5:31; 13:23,38-39
22Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
23See, the virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son,
and they will name Him Immanuel, # Is 7:14
which is translated “God is with us.” # Is 7:14; Mt 21:1-4; Lk 24:44; Rm 1:2-4

He married her # Mt 1:6; 13:49; Lk 1:1; 19:32; Jd 5 25but did not know her intimately until she gave birth to a son. # Other mss read to her firstborn son And he named Him Jesus. # Gn 4:1,17; Ex 13:2; Jdg 11:39; 1Sm 1:19; Lk 2:7,21

Mattityahu (Mat) 1
1
1This is the genealogy of Yeshua the Messiah, son of David, son of Avraham:
2Avraham was the father of Yitz’chak,
Yitz’chak was the father of Ya‘akov,
Ya‘akov was the father of Y’hudah and his brothers,
3Y’hudah was the father of Peretz and Zerach (their mother was Tamar),
Peretz was the father of Hetzron,
Hetzron was the father of Ram,
4Ram was the father of ‘Amminadav,
‘Amminadav was the father of Nachshon,
Nachshon was the father of Salmon,
5Salmon was the father of Bo‘az (his mother was Rachav),
Bo‘az was the father of ‘Oved (his mother was Rut),
‘Oved was the father of Yishai,
6Yishai was the father of David the king.
David was the father of Shlomo (his mother was the wife of Uriyah),
7Shlomo was the father of Rechav‘am,
Rechav‘am was the father of Aviyah,
Aviyah was the father of Asa,
8Asa was the father of Y’hoshafat,
Y’hoshafat was the father of Yoram,
Yoram was the father of ‘Uziyahu,
9‘Uziyahu was the father of Yotam,
Yotam was the father of Achaz,
Achaz was the father of Hizkiyahu,
10Hizkiyahu was the father of M’nasheh,
M’nasheh was the father of Amon,
Amon was the father of Yoshiyahu,
11Yoshiyahu was the father of Y’khanyahu and his brothers
at the time of the Exile to Bavel.
12After the Babylonian Exile, Y’khanyahu was the father of Sh’altiel,
Sh’altiel was the father of Z’rubavel,
13Z’rubavel was the father of Avihud,
Avihud was the father of Elyakim,
Elyakim was the father of ‘Azur,
14‘Azur was the father of Tzadok,
Tzadok was the father of Yakhin,
Yakhin was the father of El’ichud,
15El’ichud was the father of El‘azar,
El‘azar was the father of Mattan,
Mattan was the father of Ya‘akov,
16Ya‘akov was the father of Yosef the husband of Miryam,
from whom was born the Yeshua who was called the Messiah.
17Thus there were fourteen generations from Avraham to David,
fourteen generations from David to the Babylonian Exile,
and fourteen generations from the Babylonian Exile to the Messiah.
18Here is how the birth of Yeshua the Messiah took place. When his mother Miryam was engaged to Yosef, before they were married, she was found to be pregnant from the Ruach HaKodesh. 19Her husband-to-be, Yosef, was a man who did what was right; so he made plans to break the engagement quietly, rather than put her to public shame. 20But while he was thinking about this, an angel of Adonai appeared to him in a dream and said, “Yosef, son of David, do not be afraid to take Miryam home with you as your wife; for what has been conceived in her is from the Ruach HaKodesh. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Yeshua, [which means ‘Adonai saves,’] because he will save his people from their sins.”
22All this happened in order to fulfill what Adonai had said through the prophet,
23“The virgin will conceive and bear a son,
and they will call him ‘Immanu El.”
(The name means, “God is with us.”)
24When Yosef awoke he did what the angel of Adonai had told him to do — he took Miryam home to be his wife, 25but he did not have sexual relations with her until she had given birth to a son, and he named him Yeshua.
