Isaiah 52
52
Wake Up, Zion
1Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, Zion!
Put on your beautiful clothes, holy city of Jerusalem.
Godless and evil people will no longer come to you.
2Shake the dust from yourselves.
Get up, captive Jerusalem.
Free yourself from the chains around your neck, captive people of Zion.
3This is what the Lord says: You were sold, but no price was paid. You will be bought back, but without money.
4This is what the Almighty Lord says: In the beginning my people went to Egypt to live there as foreigners. Later the Assyrians oppressed them for no reason. 5So what do I find here? asks the Lord. My people are taken away for no reason. Their rulers are screaming, declares the Lord. And my name is cursed all day long. 6Now my people will know my name. When that day comes, ⌞they will know⌟ that I am the one who says, “Here I am!”
7How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger
who announces the good news, “All is well.”
He brings the good news,
announces salvation,
and tells Zion that its God rules as king.
8Listen! Your watchmen raise their voices
and shout together joyfully.
When the Lord brings Zion back,
they will see it with their own eyes.
9Break out into shouts of joy, ruins of Jerusalem.
The Lord will comfort his people.
He will reclaim Jerusalem.
10The Lord will show his holy power to all the nations.
All the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
11Run away! Run away!
Get away from there!
Do not touch anything unclean.#52:11 “Unclean” refers to anything that Moses’ Teachings say is not presentable to God.
Get away from it!
Make yourselves pure,
you Levites who carry the utensils for the Lord’s temple.
12You will not go away in a hurry,
nor will you go away quickly.
The Lord will go ahead of you.
The God of Israel will guard you from behind.
The Suffering Servant
13My servant will be successful.
He will be respected, praised, and highly honored.
14Many will be shocked by him.#52:14 Two Hebrew manuscripts, Syriac, Targum; Masoretic Text “you.”
His appearance will be so disfigured
that he won’t look like any other man.
His looks will be so disfigured
that he will hardly look like a human.
15He will cleanse many nations ⌞with his blood⌟.
Kings will shut their mouths because of him.
They will see things that they had never been told.
They will understand things that they had never heard.

Isaiah 52
52
LII
1Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion!
Put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem! the holy city;
For there shall no more come unto thee the uncircumcised, and the unclean.
2Shake thyself from the dust, arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem!
Loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion!
3For thus saith Jehovah:
For nought have ye been sold,
And not with money shall ye be ransomed,
4For thus saith the Lord Jehovah:
My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there;
And the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.
5And now, what have I to do here, saith Jehovah,
Seeing that my people is taken away for nought?
They that rule over them howl, saith Jehovah,
And continually, every day, is my name blasphemed.
6Therefore my people shall know my name;
Therefore they shall know in that day
That I am He that doth speak: behold, it is I.
7How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings,
That publisheth peace, that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation;
That saith unto Zion: Thy God reigneth!
8The voice of thy watchmen! they lift up the voice; they shout for joy together:
For they shall see eye to eye,
When Jehovah restoreth Zion.
9Break out into singing, shout for joy together,
Ye waste places of Jerusalem!
For Jehovah hath comforted his people,
He hath redeemed Jerusalem.
10 Jehovah hath made bare his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations;
And all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
11Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence;
Touch no unclean thing:
Go ye out from the midst of her;
Be ye clean, ye that bear the vessels of Jehovah!
12For ye shall not go out with haste,
Nor march along by flight;
For Jehovah will go before you,
And the God of Israel shall bring up your rear.
13Behold! my servant shall prosper;
He shall be exalted, and extolled, and be very high.
14As many were astonished at thee,
(His visage was disfigured more than any man,
And his form more than the sons of men:)
15So shall he sprinkle many nations:
Kings shall shut their mouths on account of him;
For what had not been told them, they shall see;
And what they had not heard, they shall perceive.
