Isaiah 2
2
The LORD Will Teach the Nations
(Micah 4:1–3)
1This is the message which Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw about Judah and Jerusalem.
2In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s house
will be established as the highest of the mountains
and raised above the hills.
All the nations will stream to it.
3Then many people will come and say,
“Let’s go to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways so that we may live by them.”
The teachings will go out from Zion.
The Lord’s word will go out from Jerusalem.
4Then he will judge disputes between nations
and settle arguments between many people.
They will hammer their swords into plowblades
and their spears into pruning shears.
Nations will never fight against each other,
and they will never train for war again.
5Come, descendants of Jacob,
let’s live in the light of the Lord.
Israel’s Sins
6 Lord, you have abandoned your people, the descendants of Jacob,
because they are filled with Eastern influences.
They are fortunetellers like the Philistines,
and they make deals with foreigners.
7Their land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to their treasures.
Their land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to their chariots.
8Their land is filled with idols,
and they worship what their hands have shaped
and what their fingers have molded.
9People will be brought down. Everyone will be humbled.
Do not forgive them.
10Go in among the rocks and hide underground
because of the Lord’s terrifying presence
and the honor of his majesty.
11The eyes of arrogant people will be humbled.
High and mighty people will be brought down.
On that day the Lord alone will be honored.
The Day of the LORD’s Judgment
12The Lord of Armies will have his day
against all who are arrogant and conceited
and all who are proud of themselves (they will be humbled),
13against all the towering and mighty cedars of Lebanon
and all the oaks of Bashan,
14against all the high mountains
and all the lofty hills,
15against every high tower
and every fortified wall,
16against all the large ships of Tarshish
and all the beautiful boats.
17Then arrogant people will be brought down,
and high and mighty people will be humbled.
On that day the Lord alone will be honored.
18Then idols will disappear completely.
19People will go into caves in the rocks
and into holes in the ground
because of the Lord’s terrifying presence
and the honor of his majesty
when he rises to terrify the earth.
20On that day people will throw to the moles and the bats
the silver and gold idols that they made
for themselves to worship.
21They will go into caves in the rocks
and into cracks in the cliffs
because of the Lord’s terrifying presence
and the honor of his majesty
when he rises to terrify the earth.
22Stop trusting people.
Their life is in their nostrils.
How can they be worth anything?

Isaiah 2
2
1The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 #
Mic 4.1-3. It shall come to pass in the latter days
that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be raised above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it,
3and many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
5O house of Jacob,
come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord.
6For thou hast rejected thy people,
the house of Jacob,
because they are full of diviners#2.6 Cn: Heb lacks of diviners from the east
and of soothsayers like the Philistines,
and they strike hands with foreigners.
7Their land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to their treasures;
their land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to their chariots.
8Their land is filled with idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.
9So man is humbled,
and men are brought low—
forgive them not!
10Enter into the rock,
and hide in the dust
from before the terror of the Lord,
and from the glory of his majesty.
11The haughty looks of man shall be brought low,
and the pride of men shall be humbled;
and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
12For the Lord of hosts has a day
against all that is proud and lofty,
against all that is lifted up and high;#2.12 Cn Compare Gk: Heb low
13against all the cedars of Lebanon,
lofty and lifted up;
and against all the oaks of Bashan;
14against all the high mountains,
and against all the lofty hills;
15against every high tower,
and against every fortified wall;
16against all the ships of Tarshish,
and against all the beautiful craft.
17And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled,
and the pride of men shall be brought low;
and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
18And the idols shall utterly pass away.
19And men shall enter the caves of the rocks
and the holes of the ground,
from before the terror of the Lord,
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises to terrify the earth.
20In that day men will cast forth
their idols of silver and their idols of gold,
which they made for themselves to worship,
to the moles and to the bats,
21to enter the caverns of the rocks
and the clefts of the cliffs,
from before the terror of the Lord,
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises to terrify the earth.
22Turn away from man
in whose nostrils is breath,
for of what account is he?
