Isaiah 15
15
Moab Will Be Punished
1This is the divine revelation about Moab.
In a single night Ar in Moab is laid waste and destroyed!
In a single night Kir in Moab is laid waste and destroyed!
2The people of Dibon go to the temple,
to the worship sites, to cry.
Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba.
Every head is shaved bald, and every beard is cut off.#15:2 The shaving of the head and the beard are signs of a people going into exile.
3In their streets they wear sackcloth.
On their roofs and in their city squares everyone wails and cries.
4Heshbon and Elealeh also cry out.
Their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz.
Moab’s armed men cry out.
Their courage is gone.
5My heart cries out for Moab.
Its people flee as far as Zoar at Eglath Shelishiyah.
They go up the mountain road to Luhith.
They cry loudly over the destruction on the way to Horonaim.
6The Nimrim Brook has run dry!
The grass dries up,
the vegetation withers,
and nothing green is left.
7That is why they carry the wealth that they have earned and stored up
over Willow Ravine.
8Cries for help echo throughout the land of Moab.
Their wailing echoes as far as Eglaim.
Their wailing echoes as far as Beer Elim.
9The water in Dimon is red with blood,
yet I will bring even more on Dimon.
A lion will attack the fugitives from Moab
and the survivors from Adamah.#15:9 Or “the survivors in the countryside.”

1 #
Is 25.10-12; Jer 48; Ezek 25.8-11; Amos 2.1-3; Zeph 2.8-11. An oracle concerning Moab.
Because Ar is laid waste in a night
Moab is undone;
because Kir is laid waste in a night
Moab is undone.
2The daughter of Dibon#15.2 Cn: Heb the house and Dibon has gone up
to the high places to weep;
over Nebo and over Medeba
Moab wails.
On every head is baldness,
every beard is shorn;
3in the streets they gird on sackcloth;
on the housetops and in the squares
every one wails and melts in tears.
4Heshbon and Ele-aleh cry out,
their voice is heard as far as Jahaz;
therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud;
his soul trembles.
5My heart cries out for Moab;
his fugitives flee to Zoar,
to Eglath-shelishiyah.
For at the ascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
on the road to Horonaim
they raise a cry of destruction;
6the waters of Nimrim
are a desolation;
the grass is withered, the new growth fails,
the verdure is no more.
7Therefore the abundance they have gained
and what they have laid up
they carry away
over the Brook of the Willows.
8For a cry has gone
round the land of Moab;
the wailing reaches to Eglaim,
the wailing reaches to Beer-elim.
9For the waters of Dibon#15.9 One ancient Ms Vg Compare Syr: Heb Dimon are full of blood;
yet I will bring upon Dibon#15.9 One ancient Ms Vg Compare Syr: Heb Dimon even more,
a lion for those of Moab who escape,
for the remnant of the land.
