Isaiah 54

The Eternal Covenant of Peace
1 # Cited Gal. 4:27 “Sing, O barren one, who did not bear;
break forth into singing and cry aloud,
you who have not been in labor!
For the children of #ch. 62:4 the desolate one #[1 Sam. 2:5]will be more
than the children of her who is married,” says the Lord.
2 # [ch. 49:19, 20] “Enlarge the place of your tent,
and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out;
do not hold back; lengthen your cords
and strengthen your stakes.
3 # [ch. 11:14; Gen. 28:14] For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left,
and your offspring will possess the nations
and will people the desolate cities.
4“Fear not, #ch. 45:17for you will not be ashamed;
be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced;
for you will forget the shame of your youth,
and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
5 # ch. 62:4, 5; [Hos. 2:7] For your Maker is your husband,
the Lord of hosts is his name;
# See ch. 43:14 and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer,
#
Zech. 14:9
the God of the whole earth he is called.
6 # ver. 1; [ch. 49:14; 60:15; 62:4] For the Lord has called you
like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit,
like a wife of youth when she is cast off,
says your God.
7 # [ch. 26:20] For a brief moment I deserted you,
but with great compassion I will gather you.
8 # [See ver. 7 above] In overflowing anger for a moment
I hid my face from you,
# ch. 55:3 but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,”
says the Lord, your Redeemer.
9“This is like #Gen. 8:21; 9:11the days of Noah#54:9 Some manuscripts For this is as the waters of Noah to me:
as I swore that the waters of Noah
should no more go over the earth,
so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you,
and will not rebuke you.
10For the mountains may depart
and the hills be removed,
but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,
and #Num. 25:12; Ezek. 34:25; 37:26; [Mal. 2:5]my covenant of peace shall not be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
11 # ch. 51:21 “O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted,
behold, #[ch. 60:10] I will set your stones in antimony,
# [Rev. 21:19] and lay your foundations with sapphires.#54:11 Or lapis lazuli
12I will make your pinnacles of agate,#54:12 Or jasper, or ruby
your gates of carbuncles,#54:12 Or crystal
and all your wall of precious stones.
13 # Cited John 6:45 All your children #Jer. 31:33, 34 shall be taught by the Lord,
# [ch. 9:7; Ps. 119:165] and great shall be the peace of your children.
14In righteousness you shall be established;
you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear;
and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
15 # [ch. 8:9, 10] If anyone stirs up strife,
it is not from me;
whoever stirs up strife with you
shall fall because of you.
16Behold, I have created the smith
who blows the fire of coals
and produces a weapon for its purpose.
I have also created the ravager to destroy;
17no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
# ch. 45:24, 25 and their vindication#54:17 Or righteousness from me, declares the Lord.”

Yeshayah (Isaiah) 54
54
1“Sing, O barren one, you who did not bear! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you who have not been in labour! For the children of the deserted one are more than the children of the married woman,” said יהוה.
2“Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not. Lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.
3“For you shall break forth to the right and to the left, and your seed inherit the nations, and make the deserted cities inhabited.
4“Do not fear, for you shall not be put to shame, nor hurt, you shall not be humiliated. For the shame of your youth you shall forget, and not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.
5“For your Maker is your husband, יהוה of hosts is His Name, and the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl is your Redeemer. He is called the Elohim of all the earth.
6“For יהוה has called you like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when you were refused,” declares your Elohim.
7“For a little while I have forsaken you, but with great compassion I shall gather you.
8“In an overflow of wrath I hid My face from you for a moment, but with everlasting loving-commitment I shall have compassion on you,” said יהוה, your Redeemer.
9“For this is the waters of Noaḥ to Me, in that I have sworn that the waters of Noaḥ would never again cover the earth, so have I sworn not to be wroth with you, nor to rebuke you.
10“For though the mountains be removed and the hills be shaken, My loving-commitment is not removed from you, nor is My covenant of peace shaken,” said יהוה, who has compassion on you.
11“O you afflicted one, tossed with storm, and not comforted, see, I am setting your stones in antimony, and shall lay your foundations with sapphires,
12and shall make your battlements of rubies, your gates of crystal, and all your walls of precious stones,
13and all your children taught by יהוה, and the peace of your children great.
14“In righteousness you shall be established – far from oppression, for you shall not fear, and far from ruin, for it does not come near you.
15“See, they shall indeed assemble, but not because of Me. Whoever shall assemble against you falls for your sake!
16“See, I Myself have created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire, who brings forth an instrument for his work. And I have created the waster to destroy.
17“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall prove wrong. This is the inheritance of the servants of יהוה, and their righteousness from Me,” declares יהוה.
