Isaiah 27

The Redemption of Israel
1In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong #[Jer. 47:6] sword will punish #Ps. 74:14 Leviathan the fleeing serpent, #Ps. 74:14 Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay #ch. 51:9; Ezek. 29:3the dragon that is in the sea.
2In that day,
# ch. 5:7 “A pleasant vineyard,#27:2 Many Hebrew manuscripts A vineyard of wine #[ch. 26:1]sing of it!
3I, the Lord, am its keeper;
every moment I water it.
Lest anyone punish it,
I keep it night and day;
4I have no wrath.
# [ch. 10:17] Would that I had thorns and briers to battle!
I would march against them,
I would burn them up together.
5Or let them lay hold of my protection,
let them make peace with me,
let them make peace with me.”
6 # ch. 37:31; Hos. 14:5, 6 In days to come#27:6 Hebrew In those to come Jacob shall take root,
Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots
and fill the whole world with fruit.
7 #
Hos. 6:1, 2 Has he struck them #See ch. 37:36-38 as he struck those who struck them?
Or have they been slain #ch. 37:18, 19as their slayers were slain?
8 # [Jer. 10:24] Measure by measure,#27:8 Or By driving her away; the meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain by exile you contended with them;
# [Jer. 18:17] he removed them with his fierce breath#27:8 Or wind in the day of the east wind.
9Therefore by this #[ch. 22:14] the guilt of Jacob will be atoned for,
and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:#27:9 Septuagint and this is the blessing when I take away his sin
# [2 Kgs. 18:4] when he makes all the stones of the altars
like chalkstones crushed to pieces,
no #See Deut. 16:21Asherim or incense altars will remain standing.
10 # ch. 17:9; 32:14, 19; [Hos. 8:14; Mic. 5:11] For the fortified city is solitary,
a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness;
there the calf grazes;
there it lies down and strips its branches.
11When its boughs are dry, they are broken;
women come and make a fire of them.
#
Deut. 32:28; See ch. 30:16-18 For this is a people without discernment;
therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them;
he who formed them will show them no favor.
12In that day #See Gen. 15:18from the river Euphrates#27:12 Hebrew from the River to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel. 13And in that day #Lev. 25:9; [Matt. 24:31; Rev. 11:15] a great trumpet will be blown, #ch. 11:11, 16; Mic. 7:12 and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt #[ch. 2:2]will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Yeshayah (Isaiah) 27
27
1In that day יהוה with His severe sword, great and strong, punishes Liwiathan the fleeing serpent, Liwiathan that twisted serpent. And He shall kill the monster that is in the sea.
2In that day sing to her, “A vineyard of red wine!
3“I, יהוה, do guard it, I water it every moment; lest any hurt it, I guard it night and day.
4“Wrath is not in Me. Who would set thornbushes and weeds against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.
5“Or let him take hold of My strength and make peace with Me. Let him make peace with Me!”
6Those who come He causes to take root in Ya‛aqoḇ, Yisra’ĕl shall blossom and bud. And they shall fill the face of the world with fruit.
7Has He smitten him as he struck the ones who were striking him? Or as a killer – was he killed as he was killing?
8In measure, by sending her away, You contended with her. He shall take away by His rough wind in the day of the east wind.
9Therefore by this the crookedness of Ya‛aqoḇ is covered. And this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: when he makes all the stones of the slaughter-place like chalkstones that are beaten to dust – Ashĕrim and sun-pillars rise no more.
10For the city of defence is lonely, a home forsaken and left like a wilderness – there the calf feeds, and there it lies down, and shall consume its branches.
11When its twigs are dry, they are broken off, women come and set them on fire. For it is a people of no understanding, therefore He who made them has no compassion on them, and He who formed them shows them no favour.
12And in that day it shall be that יהוה threshes, from the channel of the River to the wadi of Mitsrayim. And you shall be gathered one by one,#See Jer. 3:14, 15 O children of Yisra’ĕl.
13And in that day it shall be that a great shophar is blown, and those who were perishing in the land of Ashshur and the outcasts in the land of Mitsrayim shall come, and shall worship יהוה on the set-apart mountain, in Yerushalayim.
