God’s Message to Moab
1This is a message about Moab:
One night armies took the wealth from Ar in Moab,
and the city was destroyed.
One night armies took the wealth from Kir in Moab,
and the city was destroyed.
2The king’s family and the people of Dibon#15:2 Dibon A city in the country of Moab. This name is like a Hebrew word meaning “to be very sad.” go to the places of worship#15:2 places of worship Or “high places.” See “high places” in the Word List. to cry.
The people of Moab are crying for Nebo#15:2 Nebo A city in the country of Moab and the name of a false god. and Medeba.#15:2 Medeba A city in the country of Moab. This name is like a Hebrew word meaning “to be very sad.”
They have shaved their heads and beards to show their sadness.
3Everywhere in Moab, on the housetops and in the streets,
people are wearing sackcloth.
Everyone is crying.
4In Heshbon and Elealeh they are crying loudly.
You can hear their voices as far away as Jahaz.
Even the soldiers are frightened.
They are shaking with fear.
5My heart cries, full of sorrow for Moab.
Its people run away to Zoar for safety.
They run to Eglath Shelishiyah.
The people are crying
as they go up the road to Luhith.
They are crying loudly
as they walk on the road to Horonaim.
6But Nimrim Brook is as dry as a desert.
The grass has dried up,
and the plants are all dead.
Nothing is green.
7So the people gather up everything they own
and cross the border at Arabah stream.
8You can hear crying everywhere in Moab—
as far away as Eglaim and Beer Elim.
9The water of Dimon#15:9 Dimon This is probably the city of Dibon. Dimon is like the Hebrew word meaning “blood.” is full of blood,
and I will bring even more troubles to Dimon.
A few people living in Moab have escaped the enemy,
but I will send lions to eat them.

1THE ORACLE CONCERNING MOAB.
Surely in a destructive night shall Ar of Moab be cut off;
Surely in a destructive night shall Kir of Moab be cut off.
2He goeth up to Bajith and to Debon, the high places, to weep:
Over Nebo, and over Medeba, shall Moab howl:
On every head there is baldness; every beard is shorn.
3In their streets they gird themselves with sackcloth;
On their house-tops, and in their main-streets,
Every one shrieketh, melting into tears.
4And Heshbon crieth out, and Elealeh;
Unto Jahaz is their voice heard:
Therefore do the warriors of Moab wail;
Their soul shuddereth within them.
5My heart crieth out for Moab,
Her fugitives wander even unto Zoar,
Unto Eglath-Schalischiia;
Yea the ascent of Luhith with weeping shall they ascend;
Yea in the way of Horonaim shall they raise a cry of destruction.
6For the waters of Nimrim shall become desolate:
For the pasture is withered, the tender plant faileth, the green herb is no more.
7Therefore the remnant which they possess,
And that which they have laid up;
Shall they carry off to the valley of willows.
8For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab;
Unto Eglaim her lamentation;
And to Beer-Elim her lamentation.
9Yea the waters of Dimon are full of blood:
Yet will I bring more evils upon Dimon;
Upon them of Moab that shall have escaped a lion,
And upon the remnant of the land.
