The Flood
1The Lord told Noah:
Take your whole family with you into the boat, because you are the only one on this earth who pleases me. 2Take seven pairs of every kind of animal that can be used for sacrifice#7.2 animal … for sacrifice: Hebrew “clean animals.” Animals that could be used for sacrifice were called “clean,” and animals that could not be used were called “unclean.” and one pair of all others. 3Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird with you. Do this so there will always be animals and birds on the earth. 4Seven days from now I will send rain that will last for 40 days and nights, and I will destroy all other living creatures I have made.
5-7 # Mt 24.38,39; Lk 17.27. Noah was 600 years old when he went into the boat to escape the flood, and he did everything the Lord had told him to do. His wife, his sons, and his daughters-in-law all went inside with him. 8-9He obeyed God and took a male and a female of each kind of animal and bird into the boat with him. 10Seven days later a flood began to cover the earth.
11-12 # 2 P 3.6. The water under the earth started gushing out everywhere, the sky opened like windows, and rain poured down for 40 days and nights. All this began on the seventeenth day of the second month of the year. 13On that day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives. 14They took along every kind of animal, tame and wild, including the birds. 15Noah took a male and a female of every living creature with him, 16just as God had told him to do. And when they were all in the boat, the Lord closed the door.
17-18For 40 days the rain poured down without stopping. And the water became deeper and deeper, until the boat started floating high above the ground. 19-20Finally, the mighty flood was so deep that even the highest mountain peaks were about seven meters below the surface of the water. 21Not a bird, animal, reptile, or human was left alive anywhere on earth. 22-23#3 Macc 2.4. The Lord destroyed everything that breathed. Nothing was left alive except Noah and the others in the boat. 24A hundred fifty days later, the water started going down.

1Then the Lord said to Noah, #Matt. 24:38, 39; Luke 17:26, 27; Heb. 11:7; 1 Pet. 3:20; 2 Pet. 2:5 “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that #ch. 6:9you are righteous before me in this generation. 2Take with you seven pairs of all #ch. 8:20; [Lev. 11]clean animals,#7:2 Or seven of each kind of clean animal the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, 3and seven pairs#7:3 Or seven of each kind of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth. 4For in seven days #ver. 12, 17; [Job 37:11-13] I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, #ch. 6:17and every living thing#7:4 Hebrew all existence; also verse 23 that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.” 5#ch. 6:22And Noah did all that the Lord had commanded him.
6Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came upon the earth. 7And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood. 8Of clean animals, and of animals that are not clean, and of birds, and of everything that creeps on the ground, 9two and two, male and female, went into the ark with Noah, as God had commanded Noah. 10And after seven days the waters of the flood came upon the earth.
11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the #ch. 8:2; Prov. 8:28; [Amos 9:6] fountains of the great deep burst forth, and #ch. 8:2; 2 Kgs. 7:19; Isa. 24:18; Mal. 3:10; [Ps. 78:23]the windows of the heavens were opened. 12And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13On the very same day Noah and his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark, 14they and every beast, according to its kind, and all the livestock according to their kinds, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, according to its kind, and every bird, according to its kind, every winged creature. 15They #ch. 6:20went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. 16And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in #ver. 2, 3as God had commanded him. And the Lord shut him in.
17The flood #ver. 4, 12continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. 18The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. 19And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. 20The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits#7:20 A cubit was about 18 inches or 45 centimeters deep. 21And #ver. 4; ch. 6:13, 17; 2 Pet. 3:6all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. 22Everything on the dry land #ch. 2:7in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. 23He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only #2 Pet. 2:5Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. 24And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.
