Instructions for Ordaining Priests
(Leviticus 8.1-36)
The Lord said to Moses:
1When you ordain Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests, choose a young bull and two rams that have nothing wrong with them. 2Then from your finest flour make three batches of dough without yeast. Shape some of it into larger loaves, some into smaller loaves mixed with olive oil, and the rest into thin wafers brushed with oil. 3Put all of this bread in a basket and bring it when you come to sacrifice the three animals to me.
4Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the sacred tent and tell them to wash themselves. 5Dress Aaron in the priestly shirt, the robe that goes under the sacred vest, the vest itself, the breastpiece, and the sash. 6Put on his turban with its narrow strip of engraved gold 7and then ordain him by pouring olive oil on his head.
8Next, dress Aaron's sons in their special shirts, 9caps, and sashes,#29.9 sashes: One ancient translation; Hebrew “the sashes of Aaron and his sons.” then ordain them, because they and their descendants will always be priests.
10Lead the bull to the entrance of the sacred tent, where Aaron and his sons will lay their hands on its head. 11Kill the bull near my altar in front of the tent. 12Use a finger to smear some of its blood on each of the four corners of the altar and pour out the rest of the blood on the ground next to the altar. 13Then take the fat from the animal's insides, as well as the lower part of the liver and the two kidneys with their fat, and send them up as an offering to me in the smoke from the altar. 14But the meat, the skin, and the food still in the bull's stomach must be burned outside the camp as an offering to ask forgiveness for the sins of the priests.#29.14 for the sins of the priests: When a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins was made for someone other than priests, the part that was not burned on the altar could be eaten by the priests (see Leviticus 5.13; 6.26).
15Bring one of the rams to Aaron and his sons and tell them to lay their hands on its head. 16Kill the ram and splatter its blood against all four sides of the altar. 17Cut up the ram, wash its insides and legs, and lay all of its parts on the altar, including the head. 18#Eph 5.2; Phil 4.18. Then make sure that the whole animal goes up in smoke with a smell that pleases me.
19Bring the other ram to Aaron and his sons and tell them to lay their hands on its head. 20Kill the ram and place some of its blood on Aaron's right ear lobe, his right thumb, and the big toe of his right foot. Do the same for each of his sons and splatter the rest of the blood against the four sides of the altar. 21Then take some of the blood from the altar, mix it with the oil used for ordination, and sprinkle it on Aaron and his clothes, and also on his sons and their clothes. This will show that they and their clothes have been dedicated to me.
22This ram is part of the ordination service. So remove its right hind leg,#29.22 right hind leg: This was usually given to the officiating priest (see Leviticus 7.33). its fat tail, the fat on its insides, as well as the lower part of the liver and the two kidneys with their fat. 23Take one loaf of each kind of bread#29.23 each kind of bread: See verses 2,3. from the basket, 24and put this bread, together with the meat, into the hands of Aaron and his sons. Then they will lift it all up#29.24 lift it all up: Or “wave it all.” to show that it is dedicated to me. 25After this, put the meat and bread on the altar and send them up in smoke with a smell that pleases me.
26You may eat the choice ribs from this second ram, but you must first lift them up#29.26 lift it all up: Or “wave it all.” to show that this meat is dedicated to me.
27-28In the future, when anyone from Israel offers the ribs and a hind leg of a ram either to ordain a priest or to ask for my blessing, the meat belongs to me, but it may be eaten by the priests. This law will never change.
29-30After Aaron's death, his priestly clothes are to be handed down to each descendant who succeeds him as high priest, and these clothes must be worn during the seven-day ceremony of ordination.
31Boil the meat of the ordination ram in a sacred place, 32then Aaron and his sons are to eat it together with the three kinds of bread#29.32 three kinds of bread: See verses 2,3. at the entrance to the sacred tent. 33At their ordination, a ceremony of forgiveness was performed for them with this sacred food, and only they have the right to eat it. 34If any of the sacred food is left until morning, it must be completely burned.
35Repeat this ordination ceremony for Aaron and his sons seven days in a row, just as I have instructed you. 36Each day you must offer a bull as a sacrifice for sin and as a way of purifying the altar. In addition, you must smear the altar with olive oil to make it completely holy. 37Do this for seven days, and the altar will become so holy that anyone who touches it will become holy.
Daily Sacrifices
(Leviticus 6.8-13; Numbers 28.1-8)
The Lord said:
38Each day you must sacrifice two lambs a year old, 39one in the morning and one in the evening. 40-41With each lamb offer one kilogram of your finest flour mixed with a liter of pure olive oil, and also pour out a liter of wine as an offering. The smell of this sacrifice on the fires of the altar will be pleasing to me. 42-43You and your descendants must always offer this sacrifice on the altar at the entrance to the sacred tent.
People of Israel, I will meet and speak with you there, and my shining glory will make the place holy. 44Because of who I am, the tent will become sacred, and Aaron and his sons will become worthy to serve as my priests. 45I will live among you as your God, 46and you will know that I am the Lord your God, the one who rescued you from Egypt, so that I could live among you.

Exodus 29
29
1‘And this [is] the thing which thou dost to them, to hallow them, for being priests to Me: Take one bullock, a son of the herd, and two rams, perfect ones,
2and bread unleavened, and cakes unleavened anointed with oil, of fine wheaten flour thou dost make them,
3and thou hast put them on one basket, and hast brought them near in the basket, also the bullock and the two rams.
4‘And Aaron and his sons thou dost bring near unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and hast bathed them with water;
5and thou hast taken the garments, and hast clothed Aaron with the coat, and the upper robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and hast girded him with the girdle of the ephod,
6and hast set the mitre on his head, and hast put the holy crown on the mitre,
7and hast taken the anointing oil, and hast poured [it] on his head, and hast anointed him.
8‘And his sons thou dost bring near, and hast clothed them [with] coats,
9and hast girded them [with] a girdle (Aaron and his sons), and hast bound on them bonnets; and the priesthood hath been theirs by a statute age-during, and thou hast consecrated the hand of Aaron, and the hand of his sons,
10and hast brought near the bullock before the tent of meeting, and Aaron hath laid — his sons also — their hands on the head of the bullock.
11‘And thou hast slaughtered the bullock before Jehovah, at the opening of the tent of meeting,
12and hast taken of the blood of the bullock, and hast put [it] on the horns of the altar with thy finger, and all the blood thou dost pour out at the foundation of the altar;
13and thou hast taken all the fat which is covering the inwards, and the redundance on the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat which [is] on them, and hast made perfume on the altar;
14and the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, thou dost burn with fire at the outside of the camp; it [is] a sin-offering.
15‘And the one ram thou dost take, and Aaron and his sons have laid their hands on the head of the ram,
16and thou hast slaughtered the ram, and hast taken its blood, and hast sprinkled [it] on the altar round about,
17and the ram thou dost cut into its pieces, and hast washed its inwards, and its legs, and hast put [them] on its pieces, and on its head;
18and thou hast made perfume with the whole ram on the altar. It [is] a burnt-offering to Jehovah, a sweet fragrance; a fire-offering it [is] to Jehovah.
19‘And thou hast taken the second ram, and Aaron hath laid — his sons also — their hands on the head of the ram,
20and thou hast slaughtered the ram, and hast taken of its blood, and hast put on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the great toe of their right foot, and hast sprinkled the blood on the altar round about;
21and thou hast taken of the blood which [is] on the altar, and of the anointing oil, and hast sprinkled on Aaron, and on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him, and he hath been hallowed, he, and his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him.
22‘And thou hast taken from the ram the fat, and the fat tail, and the fat which is covering the inwards, and the redundance on the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat which [is] on them, and the right leg, for it [is] a ram of consecration,
23and one round cake of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one thin cake out of the basket of the unleavened things which [is] before Jehovah.
24‘And thou hast set the whole on the hands of Aaron, and on the hands of his sons, and hast waved them — a wave-offering before Jehovah;
25and thou hast taken them out of their hand, and hast made perfume on the altar beside the burnt-offering, for sweet fragrance before Jehovah; a fire-offering it [is] to Jehovah.
26‘And thou hast taken the breast from the ram of the consecration which [is] for Aaron, and hast waved it — a wave-offering before Jehovah, and it hath become thy portion;
27and thou hast sanctified the breast of the wave-offering, and the leg of the heaveoffering, which hath been waved, and which hath been lifted up from the ram of the consecration, of that which [is] for Aaron, and of that which [is] for his sons;
28and it hath been for Aaron and for his sons, by a statute age-during from the sons of Israel, for it [is] a heave-offering; and it is a heave-offering from the sons of Israel, from the sacrifices of their peace-offerings — their heave-offering to Jehovah.
29‘And the holy garments which are Aaron's, are for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to consecrate in them their hand;
30seven days doth the priest in his stead (of his sons) put them on, when he goeth in unto the tent of meeting, to minister in the sanctuary.
31‘And the ram of the consecration thou dost take, and hast boiled its flesh in the holy place;
32and Aaron hath eaten — his sons also — the flesh of the ram, and the bread which [is] in the basket, at the opening of the tent of meeting;
33and they have eaten those things by which there is atonement to consecrate their hand, to sanctify them; and a stranger doth not eat — for they [are] holy;
34and if there be left of the flesh of the consecration or of the bread till the morning, then thou hast burned that which is left with fire; it is not eaten, for it [is] holy.
35‘And thou hast done thus to Aaron and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded thee; seven days thou dost consecrate their hand;
36and a bullock, a sin-offering, thou dost prepare daily for the atonements, and thou hast atoned for the altar, in thy making atonement on it, and hast anointed it to sanctify it;
37seven days thou dost make atonement for the altar, and hast sanctified it, and the altar hath been most holy; all that is coming against the altar is holy.
38‘And this [is] that which thou dost prepare on the altar; two lambs, sons of a year, daily continually;
39the one lamb thou dost prepare in the morning, and the second lamb thou dost prepare between the evenings;
40and a tenth [deal] of fine flour, mixed with beaten oil, a fourth part of a hin, and a libation, a fourth part of a hin, of wine, [is] for the one lamb.
41‘And the second lamb thou dost prepare between the evenings; according to the present of the morning, and according to its libation, thou dost prepare for it, for sweet fragrance, a fire-offering, to Jehovah: —
42a continual burnt-offering for your generations, at the opening of the tent of meeting, before Jehovah, whither I am met with you, to speak unto thee there,
43and I have met there with the sons of Israel, and it hath been sanctified by My honour.
44‘And I have sanctified the tent of meeting, and the altar, and Aaron and his sons I sanctify for being priests to Me,
45and I have tabernacled in the midst of the sons of Israel, and have become their God,
46and they have known that I [am] Jehovah their God, who hath brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I may tabernacle in their midst; I [am] Jehovah their God.
