Immoral Followers

Dt 22.30. I have heard terrible things about some of you. In fact, you are behaving worse than Gentiles. A man is even sleeping with his own stepmother.#5.1 is even sleeping with his own stepmother: Or “has even married his own stepmother.” 2You are proud, when you ought to feel bad enough to chase away anyone who acts like this.
3-4I am with you only in my thoughts. But in the name of our Lord Jesus I have already judged this man, as though I were with you in person. So when you meet together and the power of the Lord Jesus is with you, I will be there too. 5You must then hand that man over to Satan. His body will be destroyed, but his spirit will be saved when the Lord Jesus returns.

Ga 5.9. Stop being proud! Don't you know how a little yeast can spread through the whole batch of dough? 7#Ex 12.4,5. Get rid of the old yeast! Then you will be like fresh bread made without yeast, and this is what you are. Our Passover lamb is Christ, who has already been sacrificed. 8#Ex 13.7; Dt 16.3,4. So don't celebrate the festival by being evil and sinful, which is like serving bread made with yeast. Be pure and truthful and celebrate by using bread made without yeast.
9In my other letter#5.9 other letter: An unknown letter that Paul wrote to the Christians at Corinth before he wrote this one. I told you not to have anything to do with immoral people. 10But I wasn't talking about the people of this world. You would have to leave this world to get away from everyone who is immoral or greedy or who cheats or worships idols. 11I was talking about your own people who are immoral or greedy or worship idols or curse others or get drunk or cheat. Don't even eat with them! 12Why should I judge outsiders? Aren't we supposed to judge only church members? 13#Dt 13.5; 17.5-7 (LXX). God judges everyone else. The Scriptures say, “Chase away any of your own people who are evil.”

Paul Condemns Spiritual Pride
1I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you—something that even pagans don’t do. I am told that a man in your church is living in sin with his stepmother.#5:1 Greek his father’s wife. 2You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.
3Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit.#5:3 Or in spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man 4in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church.#5:4 Or In the name of the Lord Jesus, you must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus. 5Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed#5:5a Or so that his body will be destroyed; Greek reads for the destruction of the flesh. and he himself#5:5b Greek and the spirit. will be saved on the day the Lord#5:5c Other manuscripts read the Lord Jesus; still others read our Lord Jesus Christ. returns.
6Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.#5:7 Greek has been sacrificed. 8So let us celebrate the festival, not with the old bread#5:8a Greek not with old leaven. of wickedness and evil, but with the new bread#5:8b Greek but with unleavened [bread]. of sincerity and truth.
9When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin. 10But I wasn’t talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that. 11I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer#5:11 Greek a brother. yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.
12It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. 13God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.”#5:13 Deut 17:7.
