Introduction to Phoebe
1I’m introducing our sister Phoebe to you, who is a servant#16.1 Or deacon of the church in Cenchreae. 2Welcome her in the Lord in a way that is worthy of God’s people, and give her whatever she needs from you, because she herself has been a sponsor of many people, myself included.
Greetings to Roman Christians
3Say hello to Prisca and Aquila, my coworkers in Christ Jesus, 4who risked their own necks for my life. I’m not the only one who thanks God for them, but all the churches of the Gentiles do the same. 5Also say hello to the church that meets in their house. Say hello to Epaenetus, my dear friend, who was the first convert#16.5 Or is the firstfruits in Asia for Christ. 6Say hello to Mary, who has worked very hard for you. 7Say hello to Andronicus and Junia, my relatives and my fellow prisoners. They are prominent among the apostles, and they were in Christ before me. 8Say hello to Ampliatus, my dear friend in the Lord. 9Say hello to Urbanus, our coworker in Christ, and my dear friend Stachys. 10Say hello to Apelles, who is tried and true in Christ. Say hello to the members of the household of Aristobulus. 11Say hello to my relative Herodion. Say hello to the members of the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord. 12Say hello to Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who are workers for the Lord. Say hello to my dear friend Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord. 13Say hello to Rufus, who is an outstanding believer, along with his mother and mine. 14Say hello to Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers and sisters who are with them. 15Say hello to Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them. 16Say hello to each other with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ say hello to you.
Warning against divisions
17Brothers and sisters, I urge you to watch out for people who create divisions and problems against the teaching that you learned. Keep away from them. 18People like that aren’t serving the Lord. They are serving their own feelings. They deceive the hearts of innocent people with smooth talk and flattery. 19The news of your obedience has reached everybody, so I’m happy for you. But I want you to be wise about what’s good, and innocent about what’s evil. 20The God of peace will soon crush Satan#16.20 Or the Adversary under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Greetings from Paul’s coworkers
21Timothy my coworker says hello to you, and Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my relatives. 22I’m Tertius, and I’m writing this letter to you in the Lord—hello! 23Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, says hello to you. Erastus the city treasurer says hello to you, along with our brother Quartus.#16.23 Critical editions of the Gk New Testament do not include 16:24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Final prayer
25May the glory be to God who can strengthen you with my good news and the message that I preach about Jesus Christ. He can strengthen you with the announcement of the secret#16.25 Or mystery that was kept quiet for a long time. 26Now that secret is revealed through what the prophets wrote. It is made known to the Gentiles#16.26 Or all the Gentiles in order to lead to their faithful obedience based on the command of the eternal God. 27May the glory be to God, who alone is wise! May the glory be to him through Jesus Christ forever! Amen.

Personal Greetings
1Let me introduce our sister Phoebe, who’s bringing this letter to you as my representative. She’s a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. 2Please offer her your hospitality, in the way God’s people should welcome a fellow believer. I ask you to help with anything she might need from you, because she has been very helpful to many people herself, including me.
3Greet Priscilla and Aquila, who work together with me in serving Christ Jesus. 4They have put their lives in danger for me, and I’m thankful for them, as are all the Gentile churches. 5Also please greet the church that meets in their house.
Greet my dear friend Epenetus. He was the first person in the province of Asia to believe in Christ.
6Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you.
7Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews. They have been in prison with me, and they are leaders among the apostles. They became believers in Christ before I did.
8Greet Ampliatus, my dear friend in the Lord.
9Greet Urbanus, who works together with me in serving Christ, and greet my dear friend Stachys.
10Greet Apelles, who remained faithful to Christ even when he was tested.
Greet those who live in the house of Aristobulus.
11Greet Herodion, my fellow Jew.
Greet the believers who live in the house of Narcissus.
12Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard for the Lord.
Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard for the Lord.
13Greet Rufus, a chosen believer in the Lord, and greet his mother, who has been a mother to me too.
14Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the other brothers and sisters with them.
15Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, Olympas, and all of the Lord’s people who are with them.
16Greet one another with a holy kiss.
All the churches of Christ send their greetings.
17I warn you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and who trip you up by teaching you things that are the opposite of what you’ve learned. Stay away from them, 18because people like that are serving their own appetites, not our Lord Jesus Christ. With smooth talk and flattery they fool people who don’t know any better. 19But everyone has heard that you obey God, and that makes me very happy. I want you to be wise about what is good but not know anything about what is evil.
20The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
21Timothy, who works with me, sends you his greetings. So do Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my fellow Jews.
22I, Tertius, who wrote down this letter as Paul dictated it, greet you in the Lord.
23-24Gaius sends you his greetings. I’m staying with him here, and the whole church meets in his house.
Erastus, the director of public works here in the city, and our brother Quartus send you their greetings.
25God is able to strengthen you through the good news, which is the message I preach about Jesus Christ. There was a mystery that had been kept hidden for a very long time. 26But now it has been made known to all the Gentiles through the writings of the prophets, as the eternal God has commanded. Through the revelation of this mystery, the Gentiles are starting to obey God by trusting in him. 27May the only wise God receive glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.
