Isaiah 60
60
Jerusalem’s coming radiance
1Arise! Shine! Your light has come;
the LORD’s glory has shone upon you.
2Though darkness covers the earth
and gloom the nations,
the LORD will shine upon you;
God’s glory will appear over you.
3Nations will come to your light
and kings to your dawning radiance.
4Lift up your eyes and look all around:
they are all gathered; they have come to you.
Your sons will come from far away,
and your daughters on caregivers’ hips.
5Then you will see and be radiant;
your heart will tremble and open wide,
because the sea’s abundance will be turned over to you;
the nations’ wealth will come to you.
6Countless camels will cover your land,
young camels from Midian and Ephah.
They will all come from Sheba,
carrying gold and incense,
proclaiming the LORD’s praises.
7All Kedar’s sheep will be gathered for you;
rams from Nebaioth will be your offerings;
they will be accepted on my altar,
and I will glorify my splendid house.
8Who are these who fly like a cloud,
like doves to their shelters?
9I’m the hope of the coastlands.
Ships from Tarshish are in the lead
to bring your children from afar,
their silver and gold with them
for the name of the LORD your God
and for the holy one of Israel, who has glorified you.
10Foreigners will rebuild your walls,
and their kings will serve you.
Though in my rage I struck you down,
in my favor I have consoled you.
11Your gates will be open continually;
day and night they won’t close,
to bring to you the wealth of nations,
and their kings led in procession.
12The nation and the dynasty
that won’t serve you will perish;
such nations will be devastated.
13Lebanon’s glory will come upon you,
cypress, elm, and pine,
to glorify the site of my sanctuary,
and I will honor my royal footstool.
14The children of your tormenters will come bending low to you;
all who despised you will bow down at your feet.
They will call you The LORD’s City,
Zion, of the holy one of Israel.
15Instead of being abandoned,
hated, and forbidden,
I will make you majestic forever,
a joy for all generations.
16You will suck the milk of nations,
and nurse at royal breasts.
You will know that I am the LORD, your savior
and your redeemer, the mighty one of Jacob.
17Instead of bronze I will bring gold;
instead of iron I will bring silver;
instead of wood, bronze;
and instead of stones, iron.
I will make peace your governor
and righteousness your taskmaster.
18Violence will no longer resound throughout your land,
nor devastation or destruction within your borders.
You will call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
19The sun will no longer be your light by day,
nor will the moon shine for illumination by night.#60.19 Cf DSS (1QIsaa), LXX; MT lacks by night.
The LORD will be your everlasting light;
your God will be your glory.
20Your sun will no longer set;
your moon will no longer wane.
The LORD will be an everlasting light for you,
and your days of mourning will be ended.
21Your people will all be righteous;
they will possess the land forever.
They are the shoot that I planted,
the work of my hands, to glorify myself.
22The least will become a thousand,
and the smallest a powerful people.
I am the LORD; at the right moment, I will hurry it along.

Isaiah 60
60
LX
1Arise, shine; for thy light is come,
And the glory of Jehovah is risen upon thee.
2For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And thick darkness the people;
But upon thee shall Jehovah arise,
And his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3And the nations shall come to thy light,
And kings to the brightness of thy rising.
4Lift up thine eyes round about, and see:
They are all of them gathered together, they come to thee:
Thy sons shall come from far,
And thy daughters shall be carried at the side,
5Then shalt thou look, and overflow with joy;
And thy heart shall throb, and become dilated,
When the riches of the sea shall be converted unto thee,
And the wealth of the nations shall come unto thee.
6A multitude of camels shall cover thee,
The dromedaries of Midian and Epha;
All those of Sheba shall come:
They shall bring gold and frankincense,
And proclaim the praise of Jehovah.
7All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee,
The rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee;
They shall come up with acceptance on mine altar,
And the house of my glory I will render glorious.
8Who are these that fly as a cloud?
And like doves to their holes?
9Surely, the isles shall wait for me,
And the ships of Tarshish among the first;
To bring thy sons from afar,
Their silver and their gold with them:
Because of the name of Jehovah thy God,
And because of the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.
10And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls,
And their kings shall minister unto thee:
For in my wrath I smote thee,
But in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
11Therefore thy gates shall be open continually;
They shall not be shut by day nor by night;
That unto thee might be brought the wealth of the nations,
And their kings royally attended.
12For the nations and the kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish;
Yea, those nations shall be utterly destroyed.
13The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee,
The fir-tree, the pine, and the box together;
To beautify the place of my sanctuary;
And I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee;
And all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet;
And they shall call thee, The City of Jehovah;
The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15Instead of thy being forsaken and hated,
So that no one passeth through thee;
I will make thee ad eternal excellency,
A joy of successive generations.
16Thou shalt also suck the milk of the nations,
And shalt suck the breast of kings:
And thou shalt know that I Jehovah am thy Saviour,
And thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17Instead of brass, I will bring gold;
And instead of iron, I will bring silver:
And instead of wood, brass;
And instead of stones, iron:
And I will make thy officers peace,
And thine exactors righteousness.
18Violence shall no more be heard in thy land,
Destruction or ruin, within thy borders;
But thou shalt call thy walk Salvation,
And thy gates Praise.
19The sun shall no more be for light unto thee by day,
Neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee;
For Jehovah shall be unto thee an everlasting light,
And thy God thy glory.
20Thy sun shall no more go down,
Neither shall thy moon withdraw itself;
For Jehovah shall be unto thee an everlasting light,
And the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
21Thy people also shall be all righteous;
They shall inherit the land for ever,
The branch of my planting, the work of my hands,
That I may be glorified.
22The little one shall become a thousand,
And the small one a strong nation:
I Jehovah will hasten it in its time.
