Isaiah 56
56
Keepers of God’s Sabbath
1The LORD says:
Act justly and do what is righteous,
because my salvation is coming soon,
and my righteousness will be revealed.
2Happy is the one who does this,
the person who holds it fast,
who keeps the Sabbath, not making it impure,
and avoids doing any evil.
3Don’t let the immigrant who has joined with the LORD say,
“The LORD will exclude me from the people.”
And don’t let the eunuch say,
“I’m just a dry tree.”
4The LORD says:
To the eunuchs who keep my sabbaths,
choose what I desire,
and remain loyal to my covenant.
5In my temple and courts, I will give them
a monument and a name better than sons and daughters.
I will give to them an enduring name
that won’t be removed.
6The immigrants who have joined me,#56.6 Or to the Lord
serving me and loving my name,#56.6 Or serving him and loving the LORD’s name becoming my servants,#56.6 Or becoming his servants
everyone who keeps the Sabbath without making it impure,
and those who hold fast to my covenant:
7I will bring them to my holy mountain,
and bring them joy in my house of prayer.
I will accept their entirely burned offerings and sacrifices on my altar.
My house will be known as a house of prayer for all peoples,
8says the LORD God,
who gathers Israel’s outcasts.
I will gather still others to those I have already gathered.
Neglectful leaders
9All you beasts of the field,
come and eat, all you beasts of the forest!
10The lookouts are blind;
they all lack sense.
They are all mute dogs that can’t bark,
dreamers, loungers, loving to sleep.
11But the dogs have monstrous appetites.
They never have enough.
They are shepherds who don’t understand.
All of them have turned to their own ways,
every last one greedy for profit.
12“Come! I’ll get some wine!
Let’s drink beer!
Tomorrow will be like today, or even much better.”

Isaiah 56
56
All Nations Will Be Part of God's People
1The Lord said:
Be honest and fair!
Soon I will come to save you;
my saving power will be seen
everywhere on earth.
2I will bless everyone
who respects the Sabbath
and refuses to do wrong.
3Foreigners who worship me
must not say,
“The Lord won't let us
be part of his people.”
Men who are unable
to become fathers
must no longer say,
“We are dried-up trees.”

Ws 3.14,15. To them, I, the Lord, say:
Respect the Sabbath,
obey me completely,
and keep our agreement.
5Then you will be like monuments
in my temple with your names
written on them.
This will be much better
than having children,
because these monuments
will stand there forever.
6Foreigners will follow me.
They will love me and worship
in my name;
they will respect the Sabbath
and keep our agreement.

Mt 21.13; Mk 11.17; Lk 19.46. I will bring them
to my holy mountain,
where they will celebrate
in my house of worship.
Their sacrifices and offerings
will always be welcome
on my altar.
Then my house will be known
as a house of worship
for all nations.
8I, the Lord, promise
to bring together my people
who were taken away,
and let them join the others.
God Promises To Punish Israel's Leaders
9Come from the forest,
you wild animals!
Attack and gobble up
your victims.
10You leaders of Israel
should be watchdogs,
protecting my people.
But you can't see a thing,
and you never warn them.
Dozing and daydreaming
are all you ever do.
11You stupid leaders are a pack
of hungry and greedy dogs
that never get enough.
You are shepherds
who mistreat your own sheep
for selfish gain.
12You say to each other,
“Let's drink till we're drunk!
Tomorrow we'll do it again.
We'll really enjoy ourselves.”
