Isaiah 27
27
Scattered people return
1On that day, the LORD will take a great sword, harsh and mighty, and will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the writhing serpent, and will kill the dragon that is in the sea. 2On that day:
Sing about a delightful vineyard!
3I, the LORD, am its guardian.
Every moment I water it;
night and day I guard it from attack.
4I’m not angry,
but if it yields thorns and thistles for me,
I will march to battle against it;
I will torch it completely.
5Or let them#27.5 Or it cling to me for refuge;
let them make peace with me;
let them make peace with me.
6In coming days,#27.6 Or those coming
Jacob will take root;
Israel will blossom and sprout
and fill the whole world with produce.
7Did God strike Israel as he struck those who struck him?
Was Israel killed as his killers were killed?#27.7 Heb uncertain
8By frightening Jerusalem, by sending her away,#27.8 Heb uncertain
you contended with her,
expelling with a fierce blast
on the day of the east wind.
9By this Jacob’s guilt is reconciled,
and this was how his sins were finally removed:
he made all the altar stones like shattered chalk,
sacred poles#27.9 Heb asherim, perhaps objects devoted to the goddess Asherah and incense altars that couldn’t stand.
10The fortified city lies alone,
a hut forsaken,
abandoned like the desert.
Calves graze there;
they lie down there and feed on its boughs.
11When its branches are dry, they are broken.
Women come and set fire to it.
These people have no understanding;
therefore, their maker won’t have compassion;
the one who formed them won’t be gracious.
12On that day, the LORD will beat grain from the channel of the Euphrates up to the Valley of Egypt. You will be collected, Israelites, one by one. 13On that day, a great trumpet will be played. Those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come. They will bow to the LORD at his holy mountain in Jerusalem.

Isaiah 27
27
1In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.
2In that day:
“A pleasant vineyard, sing of it!
3I, the Lord, am its keeper;
every moment I water it.
Lest any one harm it,
I guard it night and day;
4I have no wrath.
Would that I had thorns and briers to battle!
I would set out against them,
I would burn them up together.
5Or let them lay hold of my protection,
let them make peace with me,
let them make peace with me.”
6In days to come#27.6 Heb Those to come Jacob shall take root,
Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots,
and fill the whole world with fruit.
7Has he smitten them as he smote those who smote them?
Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?
8Measure by measure,#27.8 Compare Syr Vg Tg: The meaning of the Hebrew word is unknown by exile thou didst contend with them;
he removed them with his fierce blast in the day of the east wind.
9Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated,
and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:
when he makes all the stones of the altars
like chalkstones crushed to pieces,
no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing.
10For the fortified city is solitary,
a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness;
there the calf grazes,
there he lies down, and strips its branches.
11When its boughs are dry, they are broken;
women come and make a fire of them.
For this is a people without discernment;
therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them,
he that formed them will show them no favor.
12In that day from the river Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out the grain, and you will be gathered one by one, O people of Israel. 13#Mt 24.31; 1 Cor 15.52; 1 Thess 4.16. And in that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
