Isaiah 25

Rejoicing in God’s salvation
1 LORD, you are my God.
I will exalt you; I will praise your name,
for you have done wonderful things,
planned long ago, faithful and sure.
2You have turned the city into rubble,
the fortified town into a ruin,
the fortress of foreigners into a city no more,
never to be rebuilt.
3Therefore, strong people will glorify you;
the towns of tyrant nations will fear you.
4You have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in distress,
a hiding place from the storm,
a shade from the heat.
When the breath of tyrants is like a winter#25.4 Or wall storm
5or like heat in the desert,
you subdue the roar of foreigners.
Like heat shaded by a cloud,
the tyrants’ song falls silent.
6On this mountain,
the LORD of heavenly forces will prepare for all peoples
a rich feast, a feast of choice wines,
of select foods rich in flavor,
of choice wines well refined.
7He will swallow up on this mountain the veil that is veiling all peoples,
the shroud enshrouding all nations.
8He will swallow up death#25.8 Heb Maveth forever.
The LORD God will wipe tears from every face;
he will remove his people’s disgrace from off the whole earth,
for the LORD has spoken.
9They will say on that day,
“Look! This is our God,
for whom we have waited—
and he has saved us!
This is the LORD, for whom we have waited;
let’s be glad and rejoice in his salvation!”
10The LORD’s hand will indeed rest on this mountain.
Moab will be trampled down
as straw is trampled into manure.
11When in it they spread out their hands
as swimmers spread out their hands to swim,
God will lay low their pride, even by the efforts of their hands.
12The fortified towers of their#25.12 Or your walls
will be thrown down, will be leveled,
will be brought down to the earth, to the dust.

A Hymn of Praise
1 LORD, you are my God;
I will honour you and praise your name.
You have done amazing things;
you have faithfully carried out
the plans you made long ago.
2You have turned cities into ruins
and destroyed their fortifications.
The palaces which our enemies built
are gone for ever.
3The people of powerful nations will praise you;
you will be feared in the cities of cruel nations.
4The poor and the helpless have fled to you
and have been safe in times of trouble.
You give them shelter from storms
and shade from the burning heat.
Cruel enemies attack like a winter storm,#25.4 Probable text winter storm; Hebrew storm against a wall.
5like drought in a dry land.
But you, LORD, have silenced our enemies;
you silence the shouts of cruel people,
as a cloud cools a hot day.
God Prepares a Banquet
6Here on Mount Zion the LORD Almighty will prepare a banquet for all the nations of the world — a banquet of the richest food and the finest wine. 7Here he will suddenly remove the cloud of sorrow that has been hanging over all the nations. 8#1 Cor 15.54; Rev 7.17; 21.4The Sovereign LORD will destroy death for ever! He will wipe away the tears from everyone's eyes and take away the disgrace his people have suffered throughout the world. The LORD himself has spoken!
9When it happens, everyone will say, “He is our God! We have put our trust in him, and he has rescued us. He is the LORD! We have put our trust in him, and now we are happy and joyful because he has saved us.”
God will Punish Moab
10 #
Is 15.1—16.14; Jer 48.1–47; Ezek 25.8–11; Amos 2.1–3; Zeph 2.8–11 The LORD will protect Mount Zion, but the people of Moab will be trampled down, just as straw is trampled in manure. 11They will stretch out their hands as if they were trying to swim, but God will humiliate them, and their hands will sink helplessly. 12He will destroy the fortresses of Moab with their high walls and bring them tumbling down into the dust.
