1 Cor 4.17; 2 Thess 2.15 I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I handed them on to you. 3#1 Cor 3.23; Eph 1.22; 4.15; 5.23But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man#11.3 Or husband is the head of the woman,#11.3 Or wife and God is the head of Christ. 4#Acts 13.1; 1 Thess 5.20Any man who prays or prophesies with something on his head shames his head, 5but any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled shames her head—it is one and the same thing as having her head shaved. 6For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair, but if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, she should wear a veil. 7#Gen 1.26For a man ought not to have his head veiled, since he is the image and reflection#11.7 Or glory of God, but woman is the reflection#11.7 Or glory of man. 8#Gen 2.21–23Indeed, man was not made from woman but woman from man. 9#Gen 2.18Neither was man created for the sake of woman but woman for the sake of man. 10#Gen 24.65For this reason a woman ought to have authority over her head,#11.10 Or have freedom of choice regarding her head because of the angels. 11Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man or man independent of woman. 12For just as woman came from man, so man comes through woman, but all things come from God. 13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head unveiled? 14Does not nature itself teach you that, if a man wears long hair, it is dishonoring to him, 15but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16#1 Cor 7.17But if anyone is disposed to be contentious—we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.
Abuses at the Lord’s Supper
17Now in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. 18#1 Cor 1.10–12For, to begin with, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. 19#Deut 13.3; Mt 18.7; Lk 17.1; 1 Tim 4.1; 1 Jn 2.19Indeed, there have to be factions among you, for only so will it become clear who among you are genuine. 20When you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s supper. 21For when the time comes to eat, each of you proceeds to eat your own supper, and one goes hungry and another becomes drunk. 22What! Do you not have households to eat and drink in? Or do you show contempt for the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I commend you? In this matter I do not commend you!
The Institution of the Lord’s Supper

Do this in remembrance of me.” 25In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Partaking of the Supper Unworthily

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. 28#2 Cor 13.5Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29For all who eat and drink#11.29 Other ancient authorities add in an unworthy manner, without discerning the body#11.29 Other ancient authorities read the Lord’s body eat and drink judgment against themselves. 30For this reason many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.#11.30 Gk fallen asleep 31#Ps 32.5; 1 Jn 1.9But if we judged ourselves, we would not be judged. 32#Ps 94.12; 1 Cor 1.20; Heb 12.7–10But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined#11.32 Or When we are judged, we are being disciplined by the Lord so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
33So then, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34#1 Cor 4.19If you are hungry, eat at home,#11.34 Gk in a household so that when you come together, it will not be for your condemnation. About the other things I will give instructions when I come.

Roles in Worship
1You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
2Now I commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I passed them on to you. 3But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is just as if her head were shaved. 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
7A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. 9Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on #11:10 Or have authority over her head, because of the angels.
11In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Doesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16If anyone is inclined to dispute this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.
Sharing in the Lord’s Supper
(Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; Luke 22:14–23)
17In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good. 18First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
20Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat. 21For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal.#11:21 Literally each one takes first his own meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk. 22Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, 24and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you;#11:24 BYZ and TR which is broken for you do this in remembrance of Me.” 25In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the #11:27 Or will be responsible for the body and blood of the Lord. 28Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body #11:29 BYZ and TR the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
31Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment. 32But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
33So, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.
