Psalm 2
The Reign of Yahweh’s Anointed
1Why do the #2:1 Or Gentilesnations rage
And the peoples meditate on a vain thing?
2The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against Yahweh and against His #2:2 Or MessiahAnointed, saying,
3“Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
4¶He who #2:4 Or is enthronedsits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord mocks them.
5Then He speaks to them in His anger
And terrifies them in His fury, saying,
6“But as for Me, I have #2:6 Or consecratedinstalled My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
7¶“I will surely tell of the #2:7 Or decree: Yahweh said to Medecree of Yahweh:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the #2:8 Or Gentilesnations as Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth as Your possession.
9‘You shall #2:9 Or rulebreak them with a #2:9 Or scepter, staffrod of iron,
You shall shatter them like a potter’s vessel.’ ”
10¶So now, O kings, show insight;
Take warning, O #2:10 Or leadersjudges of the earth.
11Serve Yahweh with fear
And rejoice with trembling.
12 # 2:12 Some ancient versions Do homage purely, Lay hold of instruction Kiss the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His #2:12 Or anger, cf. 2:5wrath may #2:12 Or quickly, easilysoon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
