Yeshayah (Isaiah) 25
25
1O יהוה, You are my Elohim. I exalt You, I praise Your Name, for You shall do a wonder – counsels of long ago, trustworthiness, truth.
2For You shall make a city a heap, a walled city a ruin, a palace of foreigners to be a city no more – never to be rebuilt.
3Therefore a strong people praise You, the city of the ruthless nations fear You.
4For You shall be a refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the spirit of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall.
5You subdue the noise of foreigners, as heat in a dry place; as heat in the shadow of a cloud, the singing of the ruthless is subdued.
6And in this mountain יהוה of hosts shall make for all people a feast of choice pieces, a feast of old wines, of choice pieces with marrow, of old wines, well-refined.
7And He shall swallow up on this mountain the surface of the covering which covers all people, and the veil which is spread over all nations.
8He shall swallow up death forever, and the Master יהוה shall wipe away tears from all faces, and take away the reproach of His people from all the earth. For יהוה has spoken.
9And it shall be said in that day, “See, this is our Elohim. We have waited for Him, and He saves us. This is יהוה, we have waited for Him, let us be glad and rejoice in His deliverance.”
10For the hand of יהוה rests on this mountain, and Mo’aḇ is trodden down under Him, as straw is trodden down in the water of a dunghill.
11And He shall spread out His hands in their midst as he who swims spreads out his hands to swim, and He shall bring down their pride together, with the skill of His hands.
12And the high stronghold of your walls He shall bring down, lay it low, levelled to the ground, down to the dust.

Isaiah 25

A Hymn of Praise
1 LORD, you are my God;
I will honour you and praise your name.
You have done amazing things;
you have faithfully carried out
the plans you made long ago.
2You have turned cities into ruins
and destroyed their fortifications.
The palaces which our enemies built
are gone for ever.
3The people of powerful nations will praise you;
you will be feared in the cities of cruel nations.
4The poor and the helpless have fled to you
and have been safe in times of trouble.
You give them shelter from storms
and shade from the burning heat.
Cruel enemies attack like a winter storm,#25.4 Probable text winter storm; Hebrew storm against a wall.
5like drought in a dry land.
But you, LORD, have silenced our enemies;
you silence the shouts of cruel people,
as a cloud cools a hot day.
God Prepares a Banquet
6Here on Mount Zion the LORD Almighty will prepare a banquet for all the nations of the world — a banquet of the richest food and the finest wine. 7Here he will suddenly remove the cloud of sorrow that has been hanging over all the nations. 8#1 Cor 15.54; Rev 7.17; 21.4The Sovereign LORD will destroy death for ever! He will wipe away the tears from everyone's eyes and take away the disgrace his people have suffered throughout the world. The LORD himself has spoken!
9When it happens, everyone will say, “He is our God! We have put our trust in him, and he has rescued us. He is the LORD! We have put our trust in him, and now we are happy and joyful because he has saved us.”
God will Punish Moab
10 #
Is 15.1—16.14; Jer 48.1–47; Ezek 25.8–11; Amos 2.1–3; Zeph 2.8–11 The LORD will protect Mount Zion, but the people of Moab will be trampled down, just as straw is trampled in manure. 11They will stretch out their hands as if they were trying to swim, but God will humiliate them, and their hands will sink helplessly. 12He will destroy the fortresses of Moab with their high walls and bring them tumbling down into the dust.
