Isaiah 61

Besorah for the Brokenhearted
1The Ruach Adonai Elohim is on me, because Adonai has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound,
2to proclaim the year of Adonai’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn
3to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of Adonai, that He may be glorified.
4They will rebuild the ancient ruins. They will restore former desolations. They will repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
5Strangers will stand and shepherd your flocks, children of foreigners will be your plowmen and vinedressers.
6But you will be called the kohanim of Adonai, They will speak of you as the ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of nations and boast in their abundance.
7Instead of your shame, double portion. instead of disgrace they will sing for joy. Therefore in their land they will inherit a double portion; they will have everlasting joy.
8For I, Adonai, love justice. I hate robbery in the burnt offering. In faithfulness I will reward My people and cut an eternal covenant with them.
9Then their offspring will be known among the nations, their descendants among the peoples. All who see them will recognize them, for they are the seed that Adonai has blessed.
10I will rejoice greatly in Adonai. My soul will be joyful in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me in a robe of righteousness— like a bridegroom wearing a priestly turban, like a bride adorning herself with her jewels.
11For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes things sown to spring up, so Adonai Elohim will cause justice and praise to spring up before all the nations.

Joyful proclamations
1The LORD God’s spirit is upon me,
because the LORD has anointed me.
He has sent me
to bring good news to the poor,
to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim release for captives,
and liberation for prisoners,
2to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and a day of vindication for our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3to provide for Zion’s mourners,
to give them a crown in place of ashes,
oil of joy in place of mourning,
a mantle of praise in place of discouragement.
They will be called Oaks of Righteousness,
planted by the LORD to glorify himself.
4They will rebuild the ancient ruins;
they will restore formerly deserted places;
they will renew ruined cities,
places deserted in generations past.
5Foreigners will stay and shepherd your sheep,
and strangers will be your farmers and vinedressers.
6You will be called The Priests of the LORD;
Ministers of Our God, they will say about you.
You will feed on the wealth of nations,
and fatten#61.6 Heb uncertain yourself on their riches.
7Instead of shame, their#61.7 Or your portion will be double;
instead of disgrace, they will rejoice over their share.
They will possess a double portion in their land;
everlasting joy will be theirs.
8I, the LORD, love justice;
I hate robbery and dishonesty.#61.8 Heb manuscripts, LXX, Syr, Tg; MT robbery with an entirely burned offering
I will faithfully give them their wage,
and make with them an enduring covenant.
9Their offspring will be known among the nations,
and their descendants among the peoples.
All who see them will recognize
that they are a people blessed by the LORD.
10I surely rejoice in the LORD;
my heart is joyful because of my God,
because he has clothed me with clothes of victory,
wrapped me in a robe of righteousness
like a bridegroom in a priestly crown,
and like a bride adorned in jewelry.
11As the earth puts out its growth,
and as a garden grows its seeds,
so the LORD God will grow righteousness and praise before all the nations.
