Isaiah 60
60
LX
1Arise, shine; for thy light is come,
And the glory of Jehovah is risen upon thee.
2For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And thick darkness the people;
But upon thee shall Jehovah arise,
And his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3And the nations shall come to thy light,
And kings to the brightness of thy rising.
4Lift up thine eyes round about, and see:
They are all of them gathered together, they come to thee:
Thy sons shall come from far,
And thy daughters shall be carried at the side,
5Then shalt thou look, and overflow with joy;
And thy heart shall throb, and become dilated,
When the riches of the sea shall be converted unto thee,
And the wealth of the nations shall come unto thee.
6A multitude of camels shall cover thee,
The dromedaries of Midian and Epha;
All those of Sheba shall come:
They shall bring gold and frankincense,
And proclaim the praise of Jehovah.
7All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee,
The rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee;
They shall come up with acceptance on mine altar,
And the house of my glory I will render glorious.
8Who are these that fly as a cloud?
And like doves to their holes?
9Surely, the isles shall wait for me,
And the ships of Tarshish among the first;
To bring thy sons from afar,
Their silver and their gold with them:
Because of the name of Jehovah thy God,
And because of the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.
10And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls,
And their kings shall minister unto thee:
For in my wrath I smote thee,
But in my favour have I had mercy on thee.
11Therefore thy gates shall be open continually;
They shall not be shut by day nor by night;
That unto thee might be brought the wealth of the nations,
And their kings royally attended.
12For the nations and the kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish;
Yea, those nations shall be utterly destroyed.
13The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee,
The fir-tree, the pine, and the box together;
To beautify the place of my sanctuary;
And I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee;
And all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet;
And they shall call thee, The City of Jehovah;
The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15Instead of thy being forsaken and hated,
So that no one passeth through thee;
I will make thee ad eternal excellency,
A joy of successive generations.
16Thou shalt also suck the milk of the nations,
And shalt suck the breast of kings:
And thou shalt know that I Jehovah am thy Saviour,
And thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17Instead of brass, I will bring gold;
And instead of iron, I will bring silver:
And instead of wood, brass;
And instead of stones, iron:
And I will make thy officers peace,
And thine exactors righteousness.
18Violence shall no more be heard in thy land,
Destruction or ruin, within thy borders;
But thou shalt call thy walk Salvation,
And thy gates Praise.
19The sun shall no more be for light unto thee by day,
Neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee;
For Jehovah shall be unto thee an everlasting light,
And thy God thy glory.
20Thy sun shall no more go down,
Neither shall thy moon withdraw itself;
For Jehovah shall be unto thee an everlasting light,
And the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
21Thy people also shall be all righteous;
They shall inherit the land for ever,
The branch of my planting, the work of my hands,
That I may be glorified.
22The little one shall become a thousand,
And the small one a strong nation:
I Jehovah will hasten it in its time.

Isaiah 60
60
The LORD Will Be Jerusalem’s Glory
1Arise! Shine! Your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has dawned.
2Darkness now covers the earth,
and thick darkness covers the nations.
But the Lord dawns,
and his glory appears over you.
3Nations will come to your light,
and kings will come to the brightness of your dawn.
4“Look up, look around, and watch.
All of your people assemble and come to you.
Your sons come from far away.
Your daughters are carried in their arms.
5Then you will see this and rejoice,
and your heart will be thrilled with joy,
because the riches of the sea will be brought to you.
The wealth of the nations will come to you.
6“Many camels will cover your ⌞land⌟,
young camels from Midian and Ephah.
Everyone from Sheba will come.
They will bring gold and incense.
They will sing the praises of the Lord.
7All of the flocks from Kedar will gather and come to you.
The rams of Nebaioth will serve you.
They will be sacrificed as acceptable ⌞offerings⌟ on my altar.
So I will honor my beautiful temple.
8“Who are these people that fly by like clouds,
like doves to their nests?
9Certainly, the coastlands wait with hope for me.
The ships from Tarshish are the first to bring your children
from far away.
Their silver and their gold comes with them
to honor the name of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel,
because he has honored you.
10“Foreigners will rebuild your walls,
and their kings will serve you.
In my anger I struck you,
but in my favor I have compassion on you.
11Your gates will always be open.
They will never be closed day or night
so that people may bring you the wealth of nations,
with their kings led as prisoners.
12Nations and kingdoms that do not serve you will be destroyed.
The nations will certainly be ruined.
13“Lebanon’s glory will come to you:
Cedar, fir, and cypress trees will come to beautify my holy place,
and I will honor the place where my feet rest.
14The descendants of those who oppress you will bow in front of you.
All who despise you will bow at your feet.
They will call you the city of the Lord,
Zion, the city of the Holy One of Israel.
15“You have been abandoned and hated; no one has passed through you.
But now I will make you a source of everlasting pride,
a joy for all generations.
16You will drink milk from other nations
and nurse at royal breasts.
Then you will know that I am the Lord, your Savior,
the Mighty One of Jacob, your Defender.
17I will bring gold instead of bronze.
I will bring silver instead of iron,
bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stone.
I will appoint peace as your governor and righteousness as your ruler.
18No longer will you hear about violence in your land
or desolation and destruction within your borders.
You will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.
19The sun will no longer be your light during the day,
nor will the brightness of the moon give you light,
But the Lord will be your everlasting light.
Your God will be your glory.
20Your sun will no longer go down,
nor will your moon disappear.
The Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your days of sadness will be over.
21Then all your people will be righteous,
and they will possess the land permanently.
They will be the seedling I have planted,
the honored work of my hands.
22The smallest of them will become a family.
The weakest of them will become a mighty nation.
At the right time I, the Lord, will make it happen quickly.”
