Book 1
(Psalms 1—41)
The way to happiness
1God blesses those people
who refuse evil advice
and won't follow sinners
or join in sneering at God.
2Instead, the Law of the LORD
makes them happy,
and they think about it
day and night.
3They are like trees#Jr 17.8.
growing beside a stream,
trees that produce
fruit in season
and always have leaves.
Those people succeed
in everything they do.
4That isn't true of those
who are evil,
because they are like straw
blown by the wind.
5Sinners won't have an excuse
on the day of judgment,
and they won't have a place
with the people of God.
6The LORD protects everyone
who follows him,
but the wicked follow a road
that leads to ruin.

Psalms 1
1
The Ways of the Righteous and the Wicked
1Blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked;
nor does he stand in the way of sinners;
nor does he sit in the assembly of mockers.
2Instead, in the law of Yahweh is his delight,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3And so, he is like a tree planted by streams of water
that gives its fruit in its season;
its leaf also does not wither.
Therefore all that he does prospers.
4Not so the wicked.
Instead, they are like the chaff that the wind scatters.
5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6for Yahweh knows the way of the righteous,#Plural
but the way of the wicked will perish.
