Psalms 1

Book 1
(Psalms 1—41)
The way to happiness
1God blesses those people
who refuse evil advice
and won't follow sinners
or join in sneering at God.
2Instead, the Law of the LORD
makes them happy,
and they think about it
day and night.
3They are like trees#Jr 17.8.
growing beside a stream,
trees that produce
fruit in season
and always have leaves.
Those people succeed
in everything they do.
4That isn't true of those
who are evil,
because they are like straw
blown by the wind.
5Sinners won't have an excuse
on the day of judgment,
and they won't have a place
with the people of God.
6The LORD protects everyone
who follows him,
but the wicked follow a road
that leads to ruin.

Psalms 1

Psalm 1
1¶ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.
2But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night.
3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
4¶ The ungodly are not so but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
