Jesus Rises From the Dead
1After the Sabbath day was over, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came back to the tomb.
2Just then there was a powerful earthquake. An angel of the Lord came down from heaven, went over to the tomb, rolled back the stone, and sat down on it. 3His body shone like lightning and his clothes were as white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they trembled and became limp, as if they were dead.
5The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know you’re looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He’s not here. He has risen, just as he said he would! Come and see the place where he was lying. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead! He will go ahead of you to Galilee, and you’ll see him there.’ It will be as I’ve told you.”
8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid but filled with joy. They ran to tell the disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Good morning!” They came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They’ll see me there.”
The Guards Report to the Chief Priests
11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported everything that had happened to the chief priests. 12So the chief priests met with the elders and came up with a plan. They gave the soldiers a large amount of money 13and told them to say, “His disciples came during the night and stole his body while we were sleeping.” They added, 14“If the governor hears this report, we’ll make sure you don’t get into trouble.” 15So the soldiers took the money and did as they were told, and their story is still being told among the Jews to this day.
Jesus’ Final Words to His Disciples
16Then the 11 disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him, though some still had their doubts. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19So go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 20Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I will always be with you, to the very end of the age.”

1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb. 2And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it. 3And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4The guards shook from fear of him and became like dead men. 5And the angel said to the women, “#28:5 Or Stop being afraidDo not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.
