Acts 3

3
Peter Heals a Beggar Who Can’t Walk
1One day Peter and John were going up to the temple. It was three o’clock in the afternoon, the time for prayer. 2A man who hadn’t been able to walk his whole life was being carried to the Beautiful Gate of the temple. Every day someone put him near the gate so he could beg from the people who were going into the temple courtyards. 3When the man saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4They looked right at him, and Peter told him, “Look at us!” 5So the man looked right at them, because he expected to get something from them.
6Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold, but I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” 7Then Peter took him by the right hand and helped him up. At once the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8He jumped to his feet and began to walk. He went with Peter and John into the temple courtyards, walking and leaping and praising God. 9All the people saw him doing this. 10They recognized him as the same man who’d always sat and begged at the Beautiful Gate. They were filled with wonder, and they were amazed at what had happened to him.
Peter Speaks to the People at the Temple
11The man kept holding on to Peter and John. All the people were amazed, and crowds came running up to the three of them at the place called Solomon’s Porch. 12“Fellow Israelites,” Peter said to them, “why does this surprise you? Why are you staring at us, as if we had made this man walk because we were so good or powerful? 13The God of our fathers—of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—has done this, to bring glory to his servant Jesus. But you handed Jesus over to be killed. You spoke against him when he was in Pilate’s court, even though Pilate had decided to let him go. 14You spoke against the Holy and Blameless One, and you asked for a murderer to be set free instead. 15You killed the author of life—but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of that. 16You know this man and you can see that he has been made strong through faith in Jesus’ name. Faith in Jesus has healed him completely. You can see that with your own eyes.
17“My fellow Israelites, I know that you and your leaders didn’t realize what you were doing. 18But that was how God made the words that he spoke through the prophets come true. The prophets said that God’s Messiah would suffer. 19So turn away from your sins and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped away. Then the time will come when the Lord makes everything new. 20He will send Jesus, who is the Messiah he has appointed for you. 21Heaven must receive him until the time when God makes everything new, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. 22Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up a prophet like me for you. That prophet will be one of your own people. You must listen to everything he tells you. 23Anyone who doesn’t listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
24“Beginning with Samuel, all the prophets said these days would come. 25The words the prophets spoke and the covenant God made with your people long ago are meant for you too. God said to Abraham, ‘All the nations on the earth will be blessed through your children.’ 26When God raised up his servant Jesus, he sent him to you first. That was to bless you and turn you each away from doing wrong.”
