Signs of Christ’s Return
1Jesus left the temple area and was going on His way #24:1 Lit andwhen His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. 2But He responded and said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”
3And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the #24:3 Or consummationend of the age?”
4And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one #24:4 Or deceivesmisleads you. 5For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the #24:5 I.e., MessiahChrist,’ and they will #24:5 Or deceivemislead many people. 6And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.
9 “Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10And at that time many will #24:10 I.e., from the faithfall away, and they will #24:10 Or hand overbetray one another and hate one another. 11And many false prophets will rise up and #24:11 Or deceivemislead many people. 12And because lawlessness is increased, #24:12 Lit the love of the manymost people’s love will become cold. 13But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved. 14This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole #24:14 Lit inhabited earthworld as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Perilous Times
15 “Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place— # 24:15 Or the reader is to understand let the # 24:15 I.e., the reader of Daniel reader understand— 16then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17#24:17 Lit The one whoWhoever is on the #24:17 Housetops were flat living areashousetop must not go down to get things out of his house. 18And #24:18 Lit the one whowhoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 19But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20Moreover, pray that #24:20 Lit your flight will not bewhen you flee, it will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will again. 22And if those days had not been cut short, no #24:22 Lit fleshlife would have been saved; but for the sake of the #24:22 Or chosen oneselect those days will be cut short. 23Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the #24:23 I.e., MessiahChrist,’ or ‘He is over here,’ do not believe him. 24For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great #24:24 I.e., confirming miraclessigns and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the #24:24 Or chosen oneselect. 25Behold, I have told you in advance. 26So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man #24:27 I.e., be visible everywherebe. 28Wherever the corpse is, there the #24:28 Or eaglesvultures will gather.
The Glorious Return
29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. 31And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet blast, and they will gather together His #24:31 Or chosen oneselect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: as soon as its branch has become tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near; 33so you too, when you see all these things, #24:33 Or knowrecognize that #24:33 Or itHe is near, right at the #24:33 Lit doorsdoor. 34Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
36 “But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37For #24:37 Lit just like the days...so will bethe coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39and they did not #24:39 Lit knowunderstand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40At that time there will be two men in the field; one #24:40 Lit iswill be taken and one #24:40 Lit iswill be left. 41Two women will be grinding at the #24:41 I.e., handmillmill; one #24:41 Lit iswill be taken and one #24:41 Lit iswill be left.
Be Ready for His Coming
42 “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43But #24:43 Lit know thatbe sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44For this reason you must be ready as well; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
45 “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his # 24:45 Or lord master put in charge of his household slaves, to give them their food at the proper time? 46Blessed is that slave whom his #24:46 Or lordmaster finds so doing when he comes. 47Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My #24:48 Or lordmaster #24:48 Lit lingersis not coming for a long time,’ 49and he begins to beat his fellow slaves, and he eats and drinks with those habitually drunk; 50then the #24:50 Or lordmaster of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know, 51and he will #24:51 Possibly referring to other extreme punishmentcut him in two and assign #24:51 Lit his portion withhim a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs before the End
(Mark 13.1-23; Luke 21.5-24)
1And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to show him the buildings of the temple. 2And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Matt 10.22. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13#Matt 10.22. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Dan 9.27; 11.31; 12.11. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand,) 16then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains: 17#Luke 17.31. let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21#Dan 12.1; Rev 7.14. for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. 23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25Behold, I have told you before. 26#Luke 17.23,24. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28#Luke 17.37. For wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

Isa 13.10; Ezek 32.7; Joel 2.31; Rev 6.12,13. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30#Dan 7.13; Rev 1.7. and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
No Man Knoweth the Day and Hour
(Mark 13.32-37; Luke 17.26-36; 21.34-36)
36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37#Gen 6.5-8. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39#Gen 7.6-24. and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43#Luke 12.39,40. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
The Unfaithful Servant
(Luke 12.41-48)
45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
