The Flood
1Then the Lord said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this generation. 2You shall take #7.2: Lit towith you #7.2: Lit seven sevenseven pairs of every clean animal, a male and his female; and two of the animals that are not clean, a male and his female; 3also of the birds of the sky, #7.3: Lit seven sevenseven pairs, male and female, to keep their #7.3: Lit seedoffspring alive on the face of all the earth. 4For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.” 5So Noah acted in accordance with everything that the Lord had commanded him.
6Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water #7.6: Lit wascame upon the earth. 7Then Noah and his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that crawls on the ground, 9they all went into the ark to Noah #7.9: Lit two twoby twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10Now it came about after the seven days, that the waters of the flood #7.10: Lit werecame upon the earth. 11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the #7.11: Or windows of the heavensfloodgates of the sky were opened. 12The rain #7.12: Lit wasfell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.
13On this very same day Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 14they and every animal according to its kind, and all the livestock according to #7.14: Lit itstheir kind, and every crawling thing that crawls on the earth according to its kind, and every bird according to its kind, #7.14: Lit every bird, every wingall sorts of birds. 15So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. 16Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the Lord closed the door behind him.
17Then the flood #7.17: Lit wascame upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark #7.18: Lit wentfloated on the #7.18: Lit facesurface of the water. 19And the water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains #7.19: Lit which were under all the heavenseverywhere under the heavens were covered. 20The water prevailed #7.20: About 23 ft. or 6.7 mfifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21So all #7.21: Lit fleshcreatures that moved on the earth perished: birds, livestock, animals, and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23So He wiped out #7.23: Lit all existenceevery living thing that was upon the face of the land, from mankind to animals, to crawling things, and the birds of the sky, and they were wiped out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 24The water prevailed upon the earth for 150 days.

The Flood Begins
1Then the Lord said to Noah, “I have seen that you are a good man, even among the evil people of this time. So gather your family, and all of you go into the boat. 2Get seven pairs (seven males and seven females) of every kind of clean animal. And get one pair (one male and one female) of every other animal on the earth. Lead all these animals into the boat with you. 3Get seven pairs (seven males and seven females) of all the birds. This will allow all these animals to continue living on the earth after the other animals are destroyed. 4Seven days from now, I will send much rain on the earth. It will rain for 40 days and 40 nights, and I will wipe everything off the face of the earth. I will destroy everything I made.” 5Noah did everything the Lord told him to do.
6Noah was 600 years old at the time the rains came. 7He and his family went into the boat to be saved from the flood. His wife and his sons and their wives were on the boat with him. 8All the clean animals, all the other animals on the earth, the birds, and everything that crawls on the earth 9went into the boat with Noah. These animals went into the boat in groups of two, male and female, just as God commanded. 10Seven days later the flood started. The rain began to fall on the earth.
11-13On the 17th day of the second month, when Noah was 600 years old, the springs under the earth broke through the ground, and water flowed out everywhere. The sky also opened like windows and rain poured down. The rain fell on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights. That same day Noah went into the boat with his wife, his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives. 14They and every kind of animal on the earth were in the boat. Every kind of cattle, every kind of animal that crawls on the earth, and every kind of bird were in the boat. 15All these animals went into the boat with Noah. They came in groups of two from every kind of animal that had the breath of life. 16All these animals went into the boat in groups of two, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord closed the door behind Noah.
17Water flooded the earth for 40 days. The water began rising and lifted the boat off the ground. 18The water continued to rise, and the boat floated on the water high above the earth. 19The water rose so much that even the highest mountains were covered by the water. 20The water continued to rise above the mountains. The water was more than 20 feet#7:20 20 feet Literally, “15 cubits” which would be 21' 10 3/16" (6.66 m) if this was the short cubit or 25' 6 1/16" (7.77 m) if it was the long cubit. above the highest mountain.
21-22Every living thing on earth died—every man and woman, every bird, and every kind of animal. All the many kinds of animals and all the things that crawl on the ground died. Every living, breathing thing on dry land died. 23In this way God wiped the earth clean—he destroyed every living thing on the earth—every human, every animal, everything that crawls, and every bird. All that was left was Noah and his family and the animals that were with him in the boat. 24The water continued to cover the earth for 150 days.
