Psalms 24

24
PSALM 24
1 The psalm of David. The earth and the fullness thereof is the Lord’s; the world, and all that dwell therein.
2For he founded it on the seas; and made it ready on floods.
3Who shall ascend or go up into the hill of the Lord; either who shall stand in the holy place of him?
4The innocent in hands, that is, in works, and in clean heart; which took not his soul in vain, neither swore in guile to his neighbour.
5He shall take blessing of the Lord; and mercy of God his health.
6This is the generation of men seeking him; of men seeking the face of God of Jacob.
7Ye princes, take up your gates, and ye everlasting gates, be ye raised; and the king of glory shall enter.
8Who is this king of glory? the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
9Ye princes, take up your gates, and ye everlasting gates, be ye raised; and the king of glory shall enter.
10Who is this king of glory? the Lord of virtues#24:10 In the original Old Testament of the “Wycliffe Bible”, but only in Psalms, numerous verses have the phrase ‘the Lord of virtues’/’the Lord God of virtues’, where ‘virtues’ refers to ‘hosts’ or ‘armies’, as it does elsewhere, and so should be read ‘the Lord of hosts/’the Lord God of hosts’. As well, ‘virtue’ can mean ‘victory’, ‘power’ and ‘might/y’. or the Lord of hosts, he is the king of glory.
