Isaiah 11
11
CHAPTER 11
1And a rod shall go out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall ascend [or go up] of the root of it.
2And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of strength, the spirit of knowing and of piety;
3and the spirit of the dread of the Lord shall fill him. He shall deem not by the sight of eyes, neither he shall reprove, either convict, by the hearing of ears;
4but he shall deem in rightfulness [or rightwiseness] poor men, and he shall reprove in equity, for the mild men of [the] earth. And he shall smite the land with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked man.
5And rightfulness [or rightwiseness] shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith shall be the girding of his reins.
6A wolf shall dwell with a lamb, and a leopard shall rest with a kid; a calf, and a lion, and a sheep shall dwell together, and a little child shall drive them.
7A calf and a bear shall be pastured together; the whelps of them shall rest together, and a lion as an ox shall eat straw.
8And a young sucking child from the teat shall delight on the hole of a snake, and he that is weaned shall put his hand in the cave of the cockatrice.
9They shall not annoy, and shall not slay, in all mine holy hill [or holy mountain]; for why the earth is filled with the knowing of the Lord, as [the] waters of the sea covering.
10In that day the root of Jesse, that standeth into the sign of peoples; heathen men shall beseech him, and his sepulchre shall be glorious.
11And it shall be in that day, the Lord shall add the second time his hand to have in possession the residue of his people that shall be left, of [the] Assyrian, and of Egypt, and of Pathros, and of Ethiopia, and of Elam, and of Shinar, and of Hamath, and of [the] isles of the sea.
12And he shall raise a sign to nations, and shall gather together the fleers-away of Israel; and he shall gather together the scattered men of Judah from [the] four coasts of [the] earth.
13And the envy of Ephraim shall be done away, and the enemies of Judah shall perish; Ephraim shall not have envy to Judah, and Judah shall not fight against Ephraim.
14And they shall fly into the shoulders of Philistines by the sea, they shall take prey together of the sons of the east; Idumea and Moab shall be under the commandment of the hand of them, and the sons of Ammon shall be obedient.
15And the Lord shall make desolate the tongue of the sea of Egypt, and he shall raise his hand on the flood in the strength of his spirit; and he shall smite, either part, it into seven rivers, so that shod men pass by it.
16And a way shall be to my residue people that shall be left, of the Assyrians, as it was to Israel, in the day in which it ascended [or went up] from the land of Egypt.

Isaiah 11
11
The Branch’s Righteous Reign
1And a shoot will come out from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from its roots will bear fruit.
2And the spirit of Yahweh shall rest on him—
a spirit of wisdom and understanding,
a spirit of counsel and might,
a spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh.
3And his breath#Hebrew “smelling,” perhaps metaphorically as “delight” as in Amos 5:14; perhaps this line was accidentally copied twice from the preceding line is in the fear of Yahweh.
And he shall judge not by his eyesight,
and he shall rebuke not by what he hears with#Literally “the rumors of” his ears.
4But he shall judge the poor with righteousness,
and he shall decide for the needy of the earth with rectitude.
And he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and he shall kill the wicked person with the breath of his lips.
5And righteousness shall be the belt around his waist,
and faithfulness the belt around his loins.
6And a wolf shall stay#Literally “dwell as an alien” with a lamb,
and a leopard shall lie down with a kid,
and a calf and a lion and a fatling together
as a small boy leads#Literally “and a small boy leading” them.
7And a cow and a bear shall graze;
their young shall lie down together.
And a lion shall eat straw like the cattle.
8And an infant#Literally “one nursing” shall play over a serpent’s hole,
and a toddler#Literally “one who is weaned” shall put his hand on a viper’s hole.
9They will not injure and they will not destroy on all of my holy mountain,#Literally “mountain of holiness”
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of Yahweh,
as the waters cover the sea.
10And this shall happen on that day:
the nations shall inquire of the root of Jesse,
which shall be standing as a signal to the peoples,
and his resting place shall be glorious.
The Regathered Remnant
11And this shall happen on that day:
The Lord will again extend his hand a second time
to acquire the remnant of his people that is left,
from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coastlands of the sea,
12and he will raise a signal for the nations.
And he will gather the outcasts of Israel,
and he will gather the scattered ones of Judah together from the four corners#Literally “wings” of the earth.
13And the jealousy of Ephraim shall depart,
and the enemies of Judah shall be cut off.
Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah,
and Judah shall not be an enemy of Ephraim.
14But they shall swoop#Literally “fly” upon the Philistine shoulder,#That is, the hill country west of Judah westward.#Literally “sea”
Together they shall plunder the sons of the east.
Edom and Moab will be under their command,#Literally “the stretching of their hand”
and the sons of Ammon will be their subjugated people.
15And Yahweh will divide#Or “utterly destroy” the tongue#Probably the “gulf” of the sea of Egypt,#That is, the Red Sea
and he will wave his hand over the river#That is, the Euphrates River with his scorching wind;
and he will strike it into seven streams,
and he will make it passable by foot.#Literally “cause to walk with the sandal”
16So there shall be a highway from Assyria for the remnant of his people that remains,
as there was for Israel when#Literally “in the day” it went up from the land of Egypt.
