1st Corinthians 16

CHAPTER 16
1But of the gatherings [or the collects] of money that be made into saints, as I have ordained in the churches of Galatia, so also do ye
2one day of the week. Each of you keep, [or lay up], at himself, keeping that that pleaseth to him, that when I come, the gatherings be not made.
3And when I shall be present, which men ye approve, I shall send them by epistles to bear your grace into Jerusalem.
4That if it be worthy that also I go, they shall go with me.
5But I shall come to you, when I shall pass by Macedonia; for why I shall pass by Macedonia.
6But peradventure I shall dwell at you, or also dwell the winter, that ye lead me whither ever I shall go.
7And I will not now see you in my passing, for I hope to dwell with you a while, if the Lord shall suffer.
8But I shall dwell at Ephesus, unto Whitsuntide.
9For a great door and an open [or evident] is opened to me, and many adversaries.
10And if Timothy come, see ye that he be without dread with you, for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I.
11Therefore no man despise him; but lead him forth in peace, that he come to me; for I abide him with brethren.
12But, brethren, I make known to you of Apollos, that I prayed him much, that he should come to you, with brethren. But it was not his will to come now; but he shall come, when he shall have leisure [or it shall be able to him].
13Walk ye, and stand ye in the faith; do ye manly, and be ye comforted in the Lord,
14and be all your things done in charity.
15And, brethren, I beseech you, ye know the house of Stephanas, and of Fortunatus, and Achaicus, for they be the first fruits of Achaia, and into ministry of saints they have ordained themselves;
16that also ye be subjects to such, and to each working together and travailing.
17For I have joy in the presence of Stephanas, and Fortunatus, and Achaicus; for they [full]-filled that thing that failed to you;
18for they have refreshed both my spirit and yours. Therefore know ye them, that be such manner men.
19All the churches of Asia greet you well. Aquila and Priscilla, with their home-church, greet you much in the Lord, at the which also I am harboured.
20All brethren greet you well. Greet ye well together in holy kiss.
21My greeting by Paul’s hand.
22If any man loveth not our Lord Jesus Christ, be he cursed, Maranatha, that is, in the coming of the Lord, or in the day of doom.
23The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
24My charity be with you all in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

1 Corinthians 16

The Collection for the People in Jerusalem
1Now, concerning the money to be collected for God’s people ⌞in Jerusalem⌟: I want you to do as I directed the churches in Galatia. 2Every Sunday each of you should set aside some of your money and save it. Then money won’t have to be collected when I come. 3When I come, I will give letters of introduction to the people whom you choose. You can send your gift to Jerusalem with them. 4If I think it’s worthwhile for me to go, they can go with me.
Paul’s Plans
5After I go through the province of Macedonia, I’ll visit you. (I will be going through Macedonia.) 6I’ll probably stay with you. I might even spend the winter. Then you can give me your support as I travel, wherever I decide to go. 7Right now all I could do is visit you briefly, but if the Lord lets me, I hope to spend some time with you. 8I will be staying here in Ephesus until Pentecost. 9I have a great opportunity to do effective work here, although there are many people who oppose me.
News about Timothy, Apollos, and Others
10If Timothy comes, make sure that he doesn’t have anything to be afraid of while he is with you. He’s doing the Lord’s work as I am, 11so no one should treat him with contempt. Without quarreling, give him your support for his trip so that he may come to me. I’m expecting him to arrive with the other Christians.
12Concerning Apollos, our brother in the Christian faith: I tried hard to get him to visit you with the other Christians. He didn’t want to at this time. However, he will visit you when he has an opportunity.
13Be alert. Be firm in the Christian faith. Be courageous and strong. 14Do everything with love.
15You know that the family of Stephanas was the first family to be won ⌞for Christ⌟ in Greece. This family has devoted itself to serving God’s people. So I encourage you, brothers and sisters, 16to follow the example of people like these and anyone else who shares their labor and hard work. 17I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus came here. They have made up for your absence. 18They have comforted me, and they have comforted you. Therefore, show people like these your appreciation.
Greetings
19The churches in the province of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca and the church that meets in their house send their warmest Christian greetings. 20All the brothers and sisters ⌞here⌟ greet you. Greet each other with a holy kiss. 21I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand.
22If anyone doesn’t love the Lord, let him be cursed! Our Lord, come!
23May the good will #16:23 Or “grace.” of the Lord Jesus be with you. 24Through Christ Jesus my love is with all of you.
