Psalms 45
45
To the Heavenly Worship Leader upon Shoshannim [Lilies], for the sons of Korakh [Bald], Maskhil [a contemplative poem], A Song of loves.
1My heart is indicting a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue [is] the pen of a ready writer.
2youi are fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into youri lips: therefore God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] has Blessed (Favored by God; happy; prosperous) youi forever.
3Gird youri sword upon [youri] thigh, O [most] mighty, with youri glory and youri majesty.
4And in youri majesty ride prosperously because of tand meekness [and] righteousness; and youri right hand shall teach youi terrible things.
5You2s arrows [are] sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; [whereby] the people fall under youi.
6Your1s throne, O God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], [is] forever and ever: the scepter of youri kingdom [is] a right scepter.
7youri love righteousness, and hates wickedness: therefore God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], youri God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], has anointed youi with the oil of gladness above youri fellows.
8All youri garments [smell] of myrrh, and aloes, [and] cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made youi glad.
9Kings’ daughters [were] among youri honourable women: upon youri right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ofir [reducing to ashes].
10Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline youri ear; forget also youri own people, and youri father’s house;
11So shall the king greatly desire youri beauty: for he [is] youri Lord-Adon [Lord of the Earth]; and worship youi him.
12And the daughter of Tzor [A Rock] (Tyre) [shall be there] with a gift; [even] the rich among the people shall intreat youri favour.
13The king’s daughter [is] all glorious within: her clothing [is] of wrought gold.
14She shall be brought unto the king in clothing of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto youi.
15With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king’s palace.
16Instead of youri fathers shall be youri children, whom youi may make princes in all the earth.
17I will make youri name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise youi forever and ever.

The Wedding Song
For the Pure and Shining One by the prophetic singers of Korah’s clan
A contemplative song of instruction for the Loved One
To the melody of “Lilies” # 45 Lilies in the Bible are metaphors of God’s precious people. See Song. 2:1–2; Hos. 14:5; Luke 12:27–28. Many believe this was the wedding song composed for Solomon as he married the princess of Egypt. But the language is so lofty and glorious that we see One greater than Solomon in its verses. This is a song of the wedding of Jesus and his bride, the church.
1My heart is on fire, boiling over with passion.
Bubbling up within me are these beautiful lyrics
as a lovely poem to be sung for the King.
Like a river bursting its banks, I’m overflowing with words,
spilling out into this sacred story. # 45:1 The Hebrew is literally “My tongue is the pen of a skillful [inspired] scribe.”
His Royal Majesty
2Beautiful! Beautiful! Beyond the sons of men! # 45:2 Or “You are the most wonderful and winsome of all men.”
Elegant grace pours out through every word you speak. # 45:2 See John 6:68; 7:46.
Truly God has anointed you, his favored one, for eternity!
3Now strap your lightning-sword of judgment upon your side,
O mighty warrior, so majestic!
You are full of beauty and splendor as you go out to war!
4In your glory and grandeur go forth in victory!
Through your faithfulness and meekness
the cause of truth and justice will stand.
Awe-inspiring miracles are accomplished by your power,
leaving everyone dazed and astonished!
5Your wounding leaves men’s hearts defeated
as they fall before you broken.
6Your glory-kingdom, O God, endures forever,
for you are enthroned to rule with a justice-scepter in your hand!
7You are passionate for righteousness, and you hate lawlessness.
This is why God, your God,
crowns you with bliss above your fellow kings.
He has anointed you, more than any other,
with his oil of fervent joy,
the very fragrance of heaven’s gladness.
8Your royal robes release the scent of suffering love # 45:8 The Hebrew word myrrh is taken from a root word that means “suffering.” Jewish rabbis refer to myrrh as “tears from a tree,” a symbol of suffering love. for your bride;
the odor of aromatic incense # 45:8 The Hebrew text reads “aloes and cassia.” Both are equated with the anointing spice, the incense burned in the Holy Place. is upon you.
From the pure and shining place, # 45:8 Or “from the ivory palaces.” This is an obvious reference to the Holy Place, as our High Priest comes from the chamber of glory to be with us. The word ivory is taken from a Hebrew word for “white and glistening.” lovely music
that makes you glad is played for your pleasure.
Her Royal Majesty
9The daughters of kings, women of honor,
are maidens in your courts.
And standing beside you,
glistening in your pure and golden glory,
is the beautiful bride-to-be! # 45:9 Or “queen.”
10Now listen, daughter, pay attention, and forget about your past.
Put behind you every attachment to the familiar,
even those who once were close to you!
11For your royal Bridegroom is ravished by your beautiful brightness.
Bow in reverence before him, for he is your Lord!
12Wedding presents pour in from those of great wealth. # 45:12 The Hebrew text is literally “the daughter of Tyre.” This was symbolic of the merchants of the earth, those possessing great wealth.
The royal friends of the Bridegroom shower you with gifts.
13As the princess-bride enters the palace,
how glorious she appears within the holy chamber,
robed with a wedding dress embroidered with pure gold!
14Lovely and stunning, she leads the procession with all her bridesmaids # 45:14 Or “virgins.” (See Rev. 14:1–4; cf. 2 Cor. 11:2.)
as they come before you, her Bridegroom-King.
15What a grand, majestic entrance!
A joyful, glad procession as they enter the palace gates!
16Your many sons will one day be kings, just like their Father.
They will sit on royal thrones all around the world.
17I will make sure the fame of your name
is honored in every generation, as all the people praise you,
giving you thanks forever and ever!
