Isaiah 39
39
1At that time M’rodakh-Bal’adan [Marduk has given a son], the son of Bal’adan [Bel is lord], king of Bavel (to jumble, or a confused medley of sounds; confusion; gate of the deity) (Babylon) [confusion], sent letters and a present to Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength]: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
2And Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength] was glad of them, and showed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength] showed them not.
3Then came Yesha’yahu [Yehovah has saved] the prophet unto king Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength], and said unto him, What said these men? and from what place came they unto youi? And Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength] said, They are come from a far country unto me, [even] from Bavel (to jumble, or a confused medley of sounds; confusion; gate of the deity) (Babylon) [confusion].
4Then said he, What have they seen in youri house? And Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength] answered, All that [is] in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them.
5Then said Yesha’yahu [Yehovah has saved] to Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength], Hear the word of the Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) Tz’va’ot [of the Heavenly Armies]:
6Behold, the days come, that all that [is] in youri house, and [that] which youri fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Bavel (to jumble, or a confused medley of sounds; confusion; gate of the deity) (Babylon) [confusion]: nothing shall be left, says the Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate).
7And of youri sons that shall issue (what comes forth) from youi, which youi shall beget (to be father of; be ancestor of), shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Bavel (to jumble, or a confused medley of sounds; confusion; gate of the deity) (Babylon) [confusion].
8Then said Hizkiyahu [Yehovah is my strength] to Yesha’yahu [Yehovah has saved], Good [is] the word of the Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) which youi have spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and tin my days.

Messengers from Babylon Visit Hezekiah
1 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill and had recovered. 2 Hezekiah welcomed#tn Heb “was happy with”; NAB, NASB “was pleased”; NIV “received the envoys gladly.” them and showed them his storehouse with its silver, gold, spices, and high-quality olive oil, as well as his whole armory and everything in his treasuries. Hezekiah showed them everything in his palace and in his whole kingdom.#tn Heb “there was nothing which Hezekiah did not show them in his house and in all his kingdom.” 3 Isaiah the prophet visited King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say? Where do they come from?” Hezekiah replied, “They come from the distant land of Babylon.” 4 Isaiah#tn Heb “he”; the referent (Isaiah) has been specified in the translation for clarity. asked, “What have they seen in your palace?” Hezekiah replied, “They have seen everything in my palace. I showed them everything in my treasuries.” 5 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to the word of the Lord who commands armies: 6 ‘Look, a time is coming when everything in your palace and the things your ancestors#tn Heb “fathers” (so KJV, NAB, NASB, NIV). have accumulated to this day will be carried away to Babylon; nothing will be left,’ says the Lord. 7 ‘Some of your very own descendants whom you father#tn Heb “Some of your sons, who go out from you, whom you father.” will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’” 8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The Lord’s word which you have announced is appropriate.”#tn Heb “good” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT); NAB “favorable.” Then he thought,#tn Heb “and he said.” The verb אָמַר (’amar, “say”) is sometimes used of what one thinks (that is, says to oneself). “For#tn Or “surely”; cf. CEV “At least.” there will be peace and stability during my lifetime.”
