Exodus 1
1
1Now these [are] the names of the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God], which came into Mitzrayim [Egypt - The Narrow Place]; every man and his household came with Ya’akov [Heal of God].
2Re’uven [Behold a Son] [Behold a Son], Shim’on [he who hears], Levi (Levite) [Adhesion, Joiner], and Y’hudah [Let Him (God) Be Praised],
3Yissakhar [There Is Recompense], Z’vulun [Glorious Dwelling Place], and Binyamin [Son of the Right Hand/Strength],
4Dan [Judge], and Naftali [My Wrestling], Gad [Good Fortune with Troublesome Effort], and Asher [Happy].
5And all the souls that came out of the waist of Ya’akov [Heal of God] were seventy souls: for Yosef [(God) He Shall Add] was in Mitzrayim [Egypt - The Narrow Place] [already].
6And Yosef [(God) He Shall Add] died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7And the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God] were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8Now there arose up a new king over Mitzrayim [Egypt - The Narrow Place], which knew not Yosef [(God) He Shall Add].
9And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God] [are] more and mightier than we:
10Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falls out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and [so] get them up out of the land.
11Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Par’oh [Pharaoh - Great House] treasure cities, Pitom [City of Justice] and Ra’amses [Child of the Sun].
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God].
13And the Mitzri made the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God] to serve with rigour:
14And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, [was] with rigour.
15And the king of Mitzrayim [Egypt - The Narrow Place] spoke to the ‘Evri’ot [Hebrew] midwives, of which the name of the one [was] Shif’rah [Beautiful], and the name of the other Puah [Splendid]:
16And he said, When you2f do the office of a midwife to the ‘Evri’ot [Hebrew] women, and see [them] upon the stools; if it [be] a son, then you2f shall kill him: but if it [be] a daughter, then she shall live.
17But the midwives feared God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], and did not as the king of Mitzrayim [Egypt - The Narrow Place] commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
18And the king of Mitzrayim [Egypt - The Narrow Place] called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have you2f done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
19And the midwives said unto Par’oh [Pharaoh - Great House], Because the ‘Evri’ot [Hebrew] women [are] not as the Mitzri [Egyptian] women; for they [are] lively, and are delivered before the midwives come in unto them.
20Therefore God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
21And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], that he made them houses.
22And Par’oh [Pharaoh - Great House] charged all his people, saying, Khav’vah [Eve] (to breath, to live) every son that is born you2f shall cast into the river, and every daughter you2f shall save alive.

Exodus 1
1
1These are the names of the Israelites who came to Egypt with Jacob along with their households: 2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. 5The total number in Jacob’s family was seventy. Joseph was already in Egypt. 6Eventually, Joseph, his brothers, and everyone in his generation died. 7But the Israelites were fertile and became populous. They multiplied and grew dramatically, filling the whole land.
Israel is oppressed
8Now a new king came to power in Egypt who didn’t know Joseph. 9He said to his people, “The Israelite people are now larger in number and stronger than we are. 10Come on, let’s be smart and deal with them. Otherwise, they will only grow in number. And if war breaks out, they will join our enemies, fight against us, and then escape from the land.” 11As a result, the Egyptians put foremen of forced work gangs over the Israelites to harass them with hard work. They had to build storage cities named Pithom and Rameses for Pharaoh. 12But the more they were oppressed, the more they grew and spread, so much so that the Egyptians started to look at the Israelites with disgust and dread. 13So the Egyptians enslaved the Israelites. 14They made their lives miserable with hard labor, making mortar and bricks, doing field work, and by forcing them to do all kinds of other cruel work.
15The king of Egypt spoke to two Hebrew midwives named Shiphrah and Puah: 16“When you are helping the Hebrew women give birth and you see the baby being born, if it’s a boy, kill him. But if it’s a girl, you can let her live.” 17Now the two midwives respected God so they didn’t obey the Egyptian king’s order. Instead, they let the baby boys live.
18So the king of Egypt called the two midwives and said to them, “Why are you doing this? Why are you letting the baby boys live?”
19The two midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because Hebrew women aren’t like Egyptian women. They’re much stronger and give birth before any midwives can get to them.” 20So God treated the midwives well, and the people kept on multiplying and became very strong. 21And because the midwives respected God, God gave them households of their own.
22Then Pharaoh gave an order to all his people: “Throw every baby boy born to the Hebrews into the Nile River, but you can let all the girls live.”
