Genesis 10

Chapter 10
1This is the report about Noah's sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, and their families.
After the deep water went away, they all had children themselves.
Japheth's family
2These are the sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. 3These are the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. 4These are the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim people and the Rodanim people. #10:4 The Kittim are people who went to live in Cyprus.
5These people lived by the sea. They lived in groups. Each group went to live in a different place. Each group spoke its own language.
Ham's family
6These are the sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. 7These are the sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteca. These are the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. 8Cush was also the father of Nimrod. Nimrod became the first brave soldier in the world. 9The Lord helped Nimrod to be a great hunter. That is why people say, ‘Like Nimrod, a great hunter that the Lord helped.’
10The first of Nimrod's lands were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. 11From that land he went to Assyria. This is where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir and Calah. 12He also built Resen. Resen is between Nineveh and Calah, which is a large city. 13Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, 14Pathrusites, Kasluhites and Caphtorites. The Philistines were descendants of the Kasluhites. #10:14 All these groups of people came from the descendants of Mizraim. They all lived in their own land.
15Canaan was the father of Sidon, who was born first. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites, 16Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, 17Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, 18Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. After some time had passed, the Canaanite families separated to different places. 19The land of Canaan went from Sidon to Gerar, as far as Gaza. It went to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20These are all descendants of Ham. They lived in groups in their own parts of the land. Each group spoke their own language.
Shem's family
21Shem also had sons. Shem was Japheth's older brother. All the sons of Eber are descendants of Shem. 22These are the sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. 23These are the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech. 24Arphaxad was the father of Shelah. Shelah was the father of Eber. 25Eber had two sons. The name of one son was Peleg. When he was alive, people began to live in different places on the earth. That is why his name was Peleg. #10:25 Peleg means to go away from each other. Peleg's brother's name was Joktan.
26Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All those were Joktan's sons. 30The land where they lived went from Mesha to Sephar. This is in the land with hills in the east. 31These are the descendants of Shem. They lived in groups in their own parts of the land. Each group spoke their own language.
32All these people are descendants of Noah's sons, and their children. They went to live in different parts of the earth and their children became different nations. This happened after God covered the earth with water and then the water went away.

Noah’s descendants
1These are the descendants of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, to whom children were born after the flood. 2Japheth’s sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. 3Gomer’s sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. 4Javan’s sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.#10.4 LXX, Sam, 1 Chron 1:7; MT Dodanim 5From these the island-nations were divided into their own countries, each according to their languages and their clans within their nations.
6Ham’s sons: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. 7Cush’s sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. Raamah’s sons: Sheba and Dedan. 8Cush fathered Nimrod, the first great warrior on earth. 9The LORD saw him as a great hunter, and so it is said, “Like Nimrod, whom the LORD saw as a great hunter.” 10The most important cities in his kingdom were Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar. 11Asshur left that land and built Nineveh, Rehoboth City, Calah, 12and Resen, the great city between Nineveh and Calah. 13Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, 14Pathrusim, Casluhim, and Caphtorim,#10.14 Or Casluhim, from which the Philistines set out, and Caphtorim from which the Philistines came.
15Canaan fathered Sidon his oldest son, and Heth, 16the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, 17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, 18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. After this the Canaanite clans were dispersed. 19The Canaanite boundary extends from Sidon by way of Gerar to Gaza and by way of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim to Lasha. 20These are Ham’s sons according to their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.
21Children were also born to Shem the father of all Eber’s children and Japheth’s older brother.
22Shem’s sons: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. 23Aram’s sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. 24Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. 25To Eber were born two sons: The first was named Peleg,#10.25 Or separation because during his lifetime the earth was divided. His brother’s name was Joktan. 26Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All of these were Joktan’s sons. 30Their settlements extended from Mesha by way of Sephar, the eastern mountains. 31These are Shem’s sons according to their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.
32These are the clans of Noah’s sons according to their generations and their nations. From them the earth’s nations branched out after the flood.
