Isaiah 39
39
1At the same time Merodach-baladan, son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, because he had heard that Hezekiah was sick and had recovered. 2Hezekiah happily welcomed the visitors and showed them what he had in his treasury—all the silver, the gold, the spices, and the expensive oils. He also showed them his whole armory and all that he had in his storehouses. In fact there wasn't anything in his palace or in the whole of his kingdom that Hezekiah didn't show them.
3Then the prophet Isaiah went to King Hezekiah and asked him, “Where did those men come from, and what did they tell you?”
“They came to see me from a long way away, from Babylon,” Hezekiah replied.
4“What did they see in your palace?” Isaiah asked.
“They saw everything in my palace,” replied Hezekiah. “There wasn't anything in all my storehouses I didn't show them.”
5Isaiah told Hezekiah, “Listen to what the Lord says: 6You can be certain that the time is coming when everything in your palace, and everything that your forefathers have saved up until now, will be taken away to Babylon. There will be nothing left, says the Lord. 7Some of your sons, your own offspring, will be taken to serve as eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
8Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The message from the Lord that you have told me is fine.” For he said to himself, “There'll definitely be peace and safety in my lifetime.”

Isaiah 39

The Babylonian Envoys
1At #2 Kin. 20:12–19; 2 Chr. 32:31; Is. 39:1–8that time Merodach-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that he had been sick and had recovered. 2#2 Chr. 32:25, 31; Job 31:25And Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his treasures—the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all his armory—all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
3Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say, and from where did they come to you?”
So Hezekiah said, “They came to me from a #Deut. 28:49; Jer. 5:15far country, from Babylon.”
4And he said, “What have they seen in your house?”
So Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.”
5Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord of hosts: 6‘Behold, the days are coming #2 Kin. 24:13; 25:13–15; Jer. 20:5when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says the Lord. 7‘And they shall take away some of your #Dan. 1:1–7sons who will descend from you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’ ”
8So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, #1 Sam. 3:18“The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good!” For he said, “At least there will be peace and truth in my days.”
