Isaiah 26
26
1At that time, this will be the song that is sung in the land of Judah: “Ours is a strong city! Its walls and defenses are our salvation! 2Open the gates so the nation that does right may enter, the nation that stays faithful. 3You will keep in complete peace those who keep their minds focused on you, because they trust in you. 4Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. 5He brings down those who live so high and mighty; he demolishes the proud city with its high walls, bringing it down to the ground, into the dust. 6The poor tread it underfoot; the oppressed walk on top of it.”
7You God, do what is right, and you straighten out the way for those who live right; you smooth out their path. 8Yes, we follow your instructions, Lord, we put our hope in you. What we most want is to remember you and your wonderful character. 9I look for you in the night; deep inside me I long for you. When your laws are shown to the earth, then the people of the world learn what is right. 10Though grace is shown to the wicked, they don't learn to do right. Even in a country where people do what's right, they continue to do evil and they don't think about how great the Lord is. 11Lord, you are holding your hand up, but they don't see it. Let them see your passionate commitment for your people, and be embarrassed; may the fire reserved for your enemies destroy them!
12Lord, you give us peace and prosperity; everything we've achieved you have done for us. 13Lord our God, there have been other lords besides you who have ruled us, but you are the only one we worship. 14They are dead, they will not live again;#26:14. Probably referring to those enemies of Judah who at times ruled them. Alternatively some see this as a reference to previous idol worship--the pagan gods who “ruled” over them. they will not rise from the grave. Lord, you punished them and destroyed them—even wiping out every memory about them. 15You have made the nation grow, Lord, you have made the nation grow. You have expanded our borders of the land, and we honored you. 16Lord, when we were suffering we came to you, pouring out our prayers like whispers as you disciplined us. 17Just as a pregnant woman giving birth tosses about and cries out in pain, that's what we were like in your presence, Lord. 18However, even though we became pregnant and we tossed about in pain, we gave birth to nothing but air. We did not bring about the salvation of the earth, and the people of the world have not become alive.#26:18. “Become alive”: the word is actually “fall,” but is taken to mean “to be born.”
19But those who died in you, Lord, will live! Their bodies will rise again! Wake up, and sing for joy, you people sleeping in the dust, for the dew you receive is like the dew of the morning giving life to those in the grave.
20My people, go inside your homes and close your doors behind you. Hide there for a little while until the fury has passed. 21Watch out! The Lord is coming from where he lives to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will reveal the blood that has been shed on it; the earth won't hide those who have been killed any longer.

Isaiah 26
26
You Keep Him in Perfect Peace
1In that day #[ch. 27:2] this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
“We have a strong city;
he sets up #[ch. 60:18]salvation
as walls and bulwarks.
2 #
Ps. 118:19, 20 Open the gates,
that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in.
3 # [ch. 30:15] You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
4Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
5 # ch. 25:12 For he has humbled
the inhabitants of the height,
the lofty city.
He lays it low, lays it low to the ground,
casts it to the dust.
6The foot tramples it,
the feet of #[ch. 25:4]the poor,
the steps of #[ch. 25:4]the needy.”
7The path of the righteous is level;
#
1 Sam. 2:9; Ps. 37:23 you make level the way of the righteous.
8In the path of your judgments,
O Lord, we wait for you;
#
Ex. 3:15
your name and #Ex. 3:15remembrance
are the desire of our soul.
9My soul yearns for you in the night;
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.
# ver. 16; [2 Chr. 33:12] For when your judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
10 # See Ps. 73:3-11 If favor is shown to the wicked,
he does not learn righteousness;
in the land of uprightness he deals corruptly
and does not see the majesty of the Lord.
11O Lord, #[Mic. 5:9] your hand is lifted up,
but #[ch. 5:12] they do not see it.
Let them see your zeal for your people, and be ashamed.
Let #Ps. 21:9; [ch. 33:14]the fire for your adversaries consume them.
12O Lord, you will ordain #ch. 9:7; Mic. 5:5peace for us,
for you have indeed done for us all our works.
13O Lord our God,
# [ch. 2:8; 2 Kgs. 16:3, 4] other lords besides you have ruled over us,
# [ch. 2:20; Ps. 20:7]; See 2 Kgs. 18:4-6 but your name alone we bring to remembrance.
14They are dead, they will not live;
they are shades, they will not arise;
to that end you have visited them with destruction
and wiped out all remembrance of them.
15 # ch. 9:3 But you have increased the nation, O Lord,
you have increased the nation; you are glorified;
# [ch. 54:2, 3] you have enlarged all the borders of the land.
16O Lord, #Hos. 5:15; See ch. 37:1-4in distress they sought you;
they poured out a whispered prayer
when your discipline was upon them.
17 # See ch. 13:8 Like a pregnant woman
who writhes and cries out in her pangs
when she is near to giving birth,
so were we because of you, O Lord;
18 # [See ver. 17 above] we were pregnant, we writhed,
but we have given birth to wind.
We have accomplished no deliverance in the earth,
and the inhabitants of the world have not fallen.
19 # [Ezek. 37:12; Dan. 12:2; Hos. 13:14] Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise.
You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy!
For #[Hos. 14:5]your dew is a dew of light,
and the earth will give birth to the dead.
20Come, my people, enter your chambers,
and shut your doors behind you;
hide yourselves #ch. 10:25for a little while
until the fury has passed by.
21 #
Mic. 1:3 For behold, the Lord is coming out from his place
to punish the inhabitants of #[ch. 24:5]the earth for their iniquity,
and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it,
and will no more cover its slain.
