Isaiah 25
25
1Lord, you are my God. I will honor you and praise who you are, because you have done wonderful things that you planned long ago. You are faithful and trustworthy! 2You have turned the city#25:2. Though no specific city is named, it is probable that Babylon is meant. Certainly it is an enemy city (having a foreigner's palace). into a pile of rubble; the fortified town is now a ruin; the foreigner palace is gone. It is no longer a city and it will never be rebuilt. 3Because of this powerful nations will honor you; cities of brutal nations will be in awe of you.
4But you have protected the poor and needy when they were in trouble, you shielded them from storms and shaded them from the heat. For the actions of brutal people are like rain beating against a wall, 5like heat in a desert. You end the noisy uprising of foreigners. In the same way that a cloud's shadow cools down the heat of the day, so the song sung by brutal people is silenced.
6On this mountain#25:6. Referring to Mount Zion. the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast for all nations, a lavish feast of aged wines, rich food, and the best meat. 7On this mountain he will destroy the veil that covers all the nations, the sheet that is over everyone. 8He will destroy death forever. The Lord God will wipe away all tears, and everywhere he will take away the humiliation suffered by his people. The Lord has spoken.
9At that time his people will say, “Look! This is our God; we have trusted in him and he has saved us! This is the Lord we have been looking for. Now we can be happy and celebrate the salvation he brings!” 10The Lord's hand of protection will be on this mountain. But the Moabites will be trampled underfoot like straw into the water of a manure pit. 11They will reach out their hands to try and save themselves, like swimmers using their hands to swim, but their pride will be humbled however much they thrash about. 12Moab,#25:12. “Moab”: supplied for clarity. he will demolish your fortress with the high walls, bringing it down to the ground, into the dust.

Isaiah 25
1¶ O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee; I will praise thy name for thou hast done wonders, the counsels of old, the truth unchanging.
2That thou hast turned the city into a heap; the defenced city into a ruin: the palace of strangers to not be a city; it shall never be rebuilt.
3Therefore the strong people shall glorify thee; the city of the strong Gentiles shall fear thee.
4For thou hast been strength to the poor, strength to the needy in his distress, refuge from the storm, shadow from the heat, for the force of the violent is as a storm against the wall.
5As the heat in a dry place, thou shalt bring down the pride of the strangers; even as with heat that burns beneath a cloud, thou shalt cause the offshoot of the stout ones to wither.
6¶ And in this mountain the Lord of the hosts shall make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of purified wines, of fat things full of marrow, of purified liquids.
7And he will undo in this mountain the mask of the covering with which all the peoples are covered and the veil that is extended over all the Gentiles.
8He will destroy death forever; and the Lord GOD shall wipe away every tear from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people he shall take away from off all the earth: for the Lord has determined it.
9¶ And it shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God, whom we have waited for, and he has saved us: this is the Lord, whom we have waited for, we will be glad and rejoice in his saving health.
10For in this mountain the hand of the Lord shall rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.
11And he shall extend his hand in the midst of him as he that swims spreads forth his hand to swim: and he shall bring down his pride with the members of his hands
12and lay siege to the fortress of thy high walls; he shall humble it and bring it down to the ground, even to the dust.
