Isaiah 2
2
1This is the vision that Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw about Judah and Jerusalem. 2In the last days the mountain where the Lord's Temple stands will be recognized as the highest of all mountains, rising above other hills. Many from the other nations will travel to it. 3People will come and say, “Let's go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Temple of the God of Jacob. There God will teach us his ways and we will follow his directions.#2:3. Literally, “walk in his paths.” God's teachings will spread out from Zion, his word from Jerusalem.”
4The Lord will decide the cases of the nations; he will settle arguments between nations. They will hammer their swords and turn them into plow blades, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nations will not fight against each other anymore; they will no longer learn methods of warfare.
5Come, you Israelites,#2:5. Literally, “house of Jacob.” let's walk in the Lord's light. 6For you, Lord, have given up on your people the Israelites, because they have adopted pagan practices from the East, they use spells like the Philistines, and make friends with foreigners.#2:6. “Make friends with foreigners”: Hebrew uncertain, probably “shake hands with children of foreigners.” 7Their country is full of silver and gold, and endless wealth. Their land is full of horses; and they have an endless amount of chariots. 8Their country is full of idols; they bow down and worship what they have made themselves—produced by their own hands! 9These people will be brought down and humiliated—Lord, don't forgive them!
10Run away into rock caves, hide underground from the terrifying presence of the Lord, from the glory of his majesty. 11Those who look with arrogance will be brought low; those who are proud will be humbled. On that day only the Lord will be lifted high. 12The Lord has set aside a day when he will deal with the proud and arrogant. He will end all self-glorification, bringing it down. 13He will cut down the cedars of Lebanon, tall and high, and all the great oaks of Bashan, 14He will bring down the tall mountains and the high hills. 15He will tear down every high tower and every defensive wall. 16He will wipe out all the commercial ships of Tarshish as well as the pleasure vessels. 17The arrogant will be humbled; the proud will be brought low. On that day only the Lord will be lifted high. 18Idols will completely vanish away.
19People will run away into rock caves and holes in the ground to try and hide from the terrifying presence of the Lord, from the glory of his majesty, when he arrives to shake the earth. 20On that day the people will take the idols of silver and gold that they made to worship and throw them away to the rats#2:20. Literally a “dig pit,” so it can refer to any burrowing animal. and the bats. 21They will run to cracks in the rocks and gaps on the cliffs to try and hide from the terrifying presence of the Lord, from the glory of his majesty, when he arrives to shake the earth.
22Don't bother trusting human beings who only live for a while.#2:22. “Only live for a while”: literally, “who have breath in their nostrils.” How much do they count?

Isaiah 2
2
1The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 #
Mic 4.1-3. It shall come to pass in the latter days
that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be raised above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it,
3and many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
5O house of Jacob,
come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord.
6For thou hast rejected thy people,
the house of Jacob,
because they are full of diviners#2.6 Cn: Heb lacks of diviners from the east
and of soothsayers like the Philistines,
and they strike hands with foreigners.
7Their land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to their treasures;
their land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to their chariots.
8Their land is filled with idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.
9So man is humbled,
and men are brought low—
forgive them not!
10Enter into the rock,
and hide in the dust
from before the terror of the Lord,
and from the glory of his majesty.
11The haughty looks of man shall be brought low,
and the pride of men shall be humbled;
and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
12For the Lord of hosts has a day
against all that is proud and lofty,
against all that is lifted up and high;#2.12 Cn Compare Gk: Heb low
13against all the cedars of Lebanon,
lofty and lifted up;
and against all the oaks of Bashan;
14against all the high mountains,
and against all the lofty hills;
15against every high tower,
and against every fortified wall;
16against all the ships of Tarshish,
and against all the beautiful craft.
17And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled,
and the pride of men shall be brought low;
and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
18And the idols shall utterly pass away.
19And men shall enter the caves of the rocks
and the holes of the ground,
from before the terror of the Lord,
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises to terrify the earth.
20In that day men will cast forth
their idols of silver and their idols of gold,
which they made for themselves to worship,
to the moles and to the bats,
21to enter the caverns of the rocks
and the clefts of the cliffs,
from before the terror of the Lord,
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises to terrify the earth.
22Turn away from man
in whose nostrils is breath,
for of what account is he?
