The Majesty of God
A Friday song composed by King David after being resettled in the land # 93 This inscription is found in the Septuagint. Jews called this psalm “The Friday psalm.” The Talmud indicates that this psalm was sung every Friday in the temple by the Levites.
1Look! Yahweh now reigns as King!
He has covered himself with majesty and strength,
wearing them as his splendor-garments.
Regal power surrounds him as he sits securely on his throne.
He’s in charge of it all, the entire world,
and he knows what he’s doing!
2Lord, you have reigned as King from the very beginning of time.
Eternity is your home.
3-4Chaos once challenged you.
The raging waves lifted themselves over and over,
high above the ocean’s depths, letting out their mighty roar!
Yet at the sound of your voice they were all stilled by your might.
What a majestic King, filled with power!
5Nothing could ever change your royal decrees;
they will last forever!
Holiness is the beauty that fills your house; # 93:5 Believers are now God’s house, made holy by the blood of Jesus. See 1 Cor. 3:16 and Heb. 3:6.
you are the one who abides forevermore!

God Is a Mighty King
1The Lord is king,#The Lord is king: lit., “the Lord reigns.” This Psalm, and Ps 47; 96–99, are sometimes called enthronement Psalms. They may have been used in a special liturgy during which God’s ascent to the throne was ritually reenacted. They have also been interpreted eschatologically, pointing to the coming of God as king at the end-time. robed with majesty;
the Lord is robed, girded with might.#Ps 47:8; 96:10; 97:1; 99:1.
The world will surely stand in place,
never to be moved.#Ps 75:2–3; 104:5.
2Your throne stands firm from of old;
you are from everlasting.#Ps 55:20; 90:2; 102:13; Heb 1:12.
3#The flood: the primordial sea was tamed by God in the act of creation. It is a figure of chaos and rebellion, cf. Ps 46:4.The flood has raised up, Lord;
the flood has raised up its roar;
the flood has raised its pounding waves.
4More powerful than the roar of many waters,
more powerful than the breakers of the sea,
powerful in the heavens is the Lord.
5Your decrees are firmly established;
holiness befits your house, Lord,
for all the length of days.
