Psalms 92

A Song of Praise
A song for the day of worship # 92 Ancient Jewish tradition holds that Adam composed this psalm on the first Sabbath of creation, and it was to be sung by the Levites on the Sabbath in the temple.
1It’s so enjoyable to come before you
with uncontainable praises spilling from our hearts!
How we love to sing our praises over and over to you,
to the matchless God, high and exalted over all!
2At each and every sunrise we will be thanking you
for your kindness and your love.
As the sun sets and all through the night,
we will keep proclaiming, “You are so faithful!”
3Melodies of praise will fill the air as every musical instrument, # 92:3 Or “a ten-stringed harp and lyre.”
joined with every heart, overflows with worship.
4No wonder I’m so glad; I can’t keep it in!
Lord, I’m shouting with glee over all you’ve done,
for all you’ve done for me:
5what mighty miracles and your power at work—just to name a few!
Depths of purpose and layers of meaning
saturate everything you do.
6Such amazing mysteries are found within every miracle
that nearly everyone seems to miss.
Those with no discernment can never really discover
the deep and glorious secrets hidden in your ways.
7It’s true the wicked flourish, but only for a moment;
they foolishly forget their destiny with death,
that they will all one day be destroyed forevermore.
8But you, O Lord, are exalted forever
in the highest place of endless glory,
9while your opponents, the workers of wickedness,
will all perish, forever separated from you.
10Your anointing has made me strong and mighty.
You’ve empowered my life for triumph # 92:10 The Septuagint reads “I will raise my horn high like a rhinoceros [Hb. translated as “wild ox”], and in my old age I will still have plenty of oil [anointing].”
by pouring fresh oil over me.
11You’ve said that those lying in wait to pounce on me
would be defeated,
and now it’s happened right in front of my eyes,
and I’ve heard their cries of surrender!
12Yes! Look how you’ve made all your devoted lovers
to flourish like palm trees,
each one growing in victory, standing with strength! # 92:12 Or “growing high like a cedar in Lebanon.” God makes us immortal and immovable.
13You’ve transplanted them into your heavenly courtyard,
where they are thriving before you,
14for in your presence they will still overflow and be anointed.
Even in their old age they will stay fresh,
bearing luscious fruit and abiding faithfully.
15Listen to them! With pleasure they still proclaim:
“You’re so good! You’re my beautiful strength!
You’ve never made a mistake with me.” # 92:15 Or “You are just and never unfair.”

PSALM 92
1 The psalm of song, in the day of sabbath. It is good to acknowledge to the Lord; and to sing to thy name, thou Highest.
2To show early thy mercy; and thy truth by night.
3In a psaltery of ten cords; with song in harp.
4For thou, Lord, hast delighted me in the works of thy making; and I shall make full out joy in the works of thine hands.
5Lord, thy works be magnified greatly; thy thoughts be made full deep.
6An unwise man shall not know; and a fool shall not understand these things.
7When sinners come forth, as hay; and all they appear, that work wicked-ness. That they perish into the world of world;
8forsooth thou, Lord, art the Highest, without end.
9For lo! Lord, thine enemies, for lo! thine enemies shall perish; and all they shall be scattered that work wickedness.
10And mine horn shall be raised as an unicorn; and mine eld age shall be in plenteous mercy.
11And mine eye despised mine enemies; and when wicked men rise against me, mine ear shall hear of their downfall.
12A just [or rightwise] man shall flower as a palm tree; he shall be multiplied as a cedar of Lebanon.
13Men planted in the house of the Lord; shall flower in the porches of the house of our God.
14Yet they shall be multiplied in plenteous eld age; and they shall be suffering well.
15That they tell, that our Lord God is rightful [or right]; and no wicked-ness is in him.
