Psalms 70

A Cry for Help
To the Pure and Shining One
David’s poetic lament to always remember
1Please, Lord! Come quickly and rescue me!
God, show me your favor and restore me.
2Let all who seek my life be humiliated and confused.
God, send them sprawling, all who wish me evil;
they just want me dead.
3Scoff at every scoffer and cause them all to be utter failures!
Let them be ashamed and horrified over their complete defeat.
4But let all who passionately seek you erupt with excitement and joy
over what you’ve done!
Let all your devoted lovers, who continually rejoice in the Savior, # 70:4 This verse contains the Hebrew root word for Yeshua.
say aloud, “How great and glorious is our God!”
5Lord, in my place of weakness and need,
won’t you turn your heart toward me and hurry to help me?
For you are my Savior, and I’m always in your thoughts.
So don’t delay to deliver me now, for you are my God.

A Prayer for Deliverance from Enemies
For the music director. Of David. To bring to remembrance.#The Hebrew Bible counts the superscription as the first verse of the psalm; the English verse number is reduced by one
1O God, make haste to deliver me.
O Yahweh, make haste to help me.
2Let them be ashamed and abashed
who seek my life.
Let them be repulsed and humiliated
who desire my harm.
3let them turn back because of their shame,
those who say, “Aha! Aha!”
4Let them rejoice and be glad in you,
all those who seek you.
Let them say continually, “God is great!”
those who love your salvation.
5But I am poor and needy;
O God hasten to me.
You are my help and my deliverer.
O Yahweh, do not delay.
