Victory over Evildoers
For the Pure and Shining One
King David’s song
1-2Lord, can’t you hear my cry, my bitter complaint?
Keep me safe from this band of criminals and
from the conspiracy of these wicked men.
They gather in their secret counsel to destroy me.
3-4Can’t you hear their slander, their lies?
Their words are like poison-tipped arrows
shot from the shadows.
They are unafraid and have no fear of consequences.
5They persist with their evil plans
and plot together to hide their traps.
They boast, “No one can see us or stop us!”
6They search out opportunities to pervert justice
as they plan the “perfect crime.”
How unsearchable is their endless evil!
They try desperately to hide the deep darkness of their hearts. # 64:6 Scholars are unanimous in agreement that the meaning of the Hebrew text of this verse is uncertain.
7But all the while God has his own fire-tipped arrows!
Suddenly, without warning,
they will be pierced and struck down.
8Staggering backward, they will be destroyed
by the very ones they spoke against.
All who see this will view them with scorn.
9Then all will stand awestruck over what God has done,
seeing how he vindicated the victims of these crimes.
10The lovers of God will be glad, rejoicing in the Lord.
They will be found in his glorious wraparound presence,
singing songs of praise to God!

To the director: A song of David.
1God, listen to my complaint.
Save me from the terrible threats of my enemies!
2Protect me from the secret plans of the wicked.
Hide me from that gang of evil people.
3They sharpen their tongues to use like swords.
They aim their poisonous words like arrows.
4Suddenly, from their hiding places, they let their arrows fly.
They shoot to kill innocent people.
5They encourage each other to do wrong.
They talk about setting traps and say, “No one will see them here!
6No one will discover our crime.
We have the perfect plan!”
Yes, people can be very tricky and hard to understand.
7But suddenly, God will shoot his arrows,
and those wicked people will be hit.
8He will use their own words against them,
and they will be destroyed.
Then everyone who sees them
will shake their heads in amazement.
9People will see what God has done.
They will tell other people about him.
Then everyone will learn more about God.
They will learn to fear and respect him.
10Good people are happy to serve the Lord.
They depend on him to protect them.
All those who want to do right will praise him!
