Thirsting for God
For the Pure and Shining One
King David’s song when he was exiled in the Judean wilderness
1O God of my life, I’m lovesick for you in this weary wilderness.
I thirst with the deepest longings to love you more,
with cravings in my heart that can’t be described.
Such yearning grips my soul for you, my God!
2I’m energized every time I enter
your heavenly sanctuary to seek more of your power
and drink in more of your glory.
3For your tender mercies mean more to me than life itself.
How I love and praise you, God!
4Daily I will worship you passionately and with all my heart.
My arms will wave to you like banners of praise.
5I overflow with praise when I come before you,
for the anointing of your presence satisfies me like nothing else.
You are such a rich banquet of pleasure to my soul.
6-7I lie awake each night thinking of you
and reflecting on how you help me like a father.
I sing through the night under your splendor-shadow,
offering up to you my songs of delight and joy!
8With passion I pursue and cling to you.
Because I feel your grip on my life,
I keep my soul close to your heart.
9Those who plot to destroy me shall descend into the darkness of hell.
10They will be consumed by their own evil
and become nothing more than dust under our feet. # 63:10 Or “food for foxes.”
11These liars will be silenced forever!
But with the anointing of a king I will dance and rejoice
along with all his devoted lovers who trust in him.

1A Psalme of David. When he was in the wildernesse of Judah. O God, thou art my God, earely will I seeke thee: my soule thirsteth for thee: my flesh longeth greatly after thee in a barren and drye land without water. 2Thus I beholde thee as in the Sanctuarie, when I beholde thy power and thy glorie. 3For thy louing kindnesse is better then life: therefore my lippes shall prayse thee. 4Thus will I magnifie thee all my life, and lift vp mine hands in thy name. 5My soule shalbe satisfied, as with marowe and fatnesse, and my mouth shall praise thee with ioyfull lippes, 6When I remember thee on my bedde, and when I thinke vpon thee in the night watches. 7Because thou hast bene mine helper, therefore vnder the shadow of thy wings wil I reioyce. 8My soule cleaueth vnto thee: for thy right hand vpholdeth me. 9Therefore they that seeke my soule to destroy it, they shall goe into the lowest partes of the earth. 10They shall cast him downe with the edge of the sword, and they shall be a portion for foxes. 11But the King shall reioyce in God, and all that sweare by him shall reioyce in him: for the mouth of them that speake lyes, shall be stopped.
