Psalms 62
62
Unshakable Faith
To the Pure and Shining One
By David, for the one who praises # 62 The inscription includes the name Jeduthun, which means “one who praises.”
1I stand silently to listen for the one I love,
waiting as long as it takes for the Lord to rescue me.
For God alone has become my Savior.
2He alone is my safe place;
his wraparound presence always protects me.
For he is my champion defender;
there’s no risk of failure with God.
So why would I let worry paralyze me,
even when troubles multiply around me?
3But look at these who want me dead,
shouting their vicious threats at me!
The moment they discover my weakness,
they all begin plotting to take me down.
4Liars, hypocrites, with nothing good to say—
all their energies are spent
on moving me from this exalted place.
Pause in his presence
5I am standing in absolute stillness, silent before the one I love,
waiting as long as it takes for him to rescue me.
Only God is my Savior, and he will not fail me.
6For he alone is my safe place.
His wraparound presence always protects me
as my champion defender.
There’s no risk of failure with God!
So why would I let worry paralyze me,
even when troubles multiply around me?
7God’s glory is all around me!
His wraparound presence is all I need,
for the Lord is my Savior, my hero, and my life-giving strength.
8Trust only in God every moment!
Tell him all your troubles and pour out your heart-longings to him.
Believe me when I tell you—he will help you!
Pause in his presence
9Before God all the people of the earth, high or low,
are like smoke that disappears,
like a vapor that quickly vanishes away.
Compared to God they’re nothing but vanity, nothing at all!
10The wealth of the world is nothing to God.
So if your wealth increases, don’t be boastful or
put your trust in your money.
And don’t you think for a moment that
you can get away with stealing by overcharging others
just to get more for yourself!
11God said to me once and for all,
“All the strength and power you need flows from me!”
And again I heard it clearly said,
12“All the love you need is found in me!”
And it’s true that you repay people for what they do.

Psalm 62
This is a song that David wrote for the music leader, Jeduthun.
Only God can save me!
1I will be patient as I wait for God to help me.
He is the only one who can make me safe.
2He alone is the strong rock
where I can hide and be safe.
With him, nothing will make me fall.
3How long will you all continue to attack me?
I am just one man,
and you want to kill me!
You want to knock me down,
like a weak wall or a fence that is falling down. #62:3 ‘fence’ A wall made of wood, not stones.
4You only want to push me off my high place.
You love to tell lies to deceive people.
When you say words to bless people,
you are cursing them in your thoughts.
Selah.
5I must be patient as I wait for God to help me.
He is the only one that I can trust for help.
6He alone is the strong rock
where I can hide and be safe.
With him, nothing will make me fall.
7It is God who has kept me safe,
and he has made me great.
He is the strong place
where I can hide and be safe.
8Yes, my friends,
you should always trust in God!
Tell him about all the troubles in your thoughts.
God is our safe place to hide!
Selah.
9People are only as light as a breath!
Whoever they are, they are not important.
If you try to weigh them, all together,
they weigh less than a breath of air. #62:9 David understands that God can choose to do what he wants to do with people. They are not important enough to stand against God. All people need to trust God to save them because of his special love. They are not able to save themselves.
10Do not cheat people,
or rob them to get money!
That will not give you anything
that you can trust to help you.
Even if you become very rich,
do not think it is important.
11I have heard God speak his truth
once, no twice!
God has great strength.
12And also, my Lord, you have a faithful love.
You pay back to everybody what they should get
for the things that they have done.
