Psalms 43

Light and Truth
For the Pure and Shining One by the prophetic singers of Korah’s clan # 43 Originally there was no inscription for this psalm as it was part of Ps. 42.
A contemplative poem for instruction
1God, clear my name.
Plead my case against the unjust charges
of these ungodly workers of wickedness.
Deliver me from these lying degenerates.
2For you are where my strength comes from # 43:2 Or “God of my strength.” and my protector,
so why would you leave me now?
Must I be covered with gloom
while the enemy comes after me, gloating with glee?
3Pour into me the brightness of your daybreak!
Pour into me your rays of revelation-truth!
Let them comfort and gently lead me onto the shining path,
showing the way into your burning presence,
into your many sanctuaries of holiness.
4Then I will come closer to your very altar
until I come before you, the God of my ecstatic joy!
I will praise you with the harp that plays in my heart to you,
my God, my magnificent God!
5Then I will say to my soul,
“Don’t be discouraged; don’t be disturbed,
for I fully expect my Savior-God to break through for me.
Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise him all over again.”
Yes, he is my saving grace!

1Grant me justice, O God;
defend me from a faithless people;
from the deceitful and unjust rescue me.#Ps 119:154.
2You, O God, are my strength.
Why then do you spurn me?
Why must I go about mourning,
with the enemy oppressing me?
3#Ps 18:29; 27:1; 36:10; Mi 7:8.Send your light and your fidelity,#Your light and your fidelity: a pair of divine attributes personified as guides for the pilgrimage. As in Ps 42:9 the psalmist prays that these divine attributes lead him back to Jerusalem and ultimately to God’s presence in the Temple.
that they may be my guide;#Ps 122:1.
Let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place of your dwelling,
4That I may come to the altar of God,
to God, my joy, my delight.
Then I will praise you with the harp,
O God, my God.
5Why are you downcast, my soul?
Why do you groan within me?
Wait for God, for I shall again praise him,
my savior and my God.
