God’s Witnesses
For the Pure and Shining One
A poem of praise by King David, his loving servant
God’s Story in the Skies
1God’s splendor is a tale that is told,
written in the stars. # 19:1 Or “The heavens are continually rehearsing the glory of God.”
Space itself speaks his story
through the marvels of the heavens.
His truth is on tour in the starry vault of the sky,
showing his skill in creation’s craftsmanship.
2Each day gushes out its message # 19:2 Or “speaks its prophecy.” to the next,
night by night whispering its knowledge to all—
3without a sound, without a word, without a voice being heard,
4yet all the world can hear its echo.
Everywhere its message goes out.
What a heavenly home God has set for the sun,
shining in the superdome of the sky!
5See how he leaves his celestial chamber each morning,
radiant as a bridegroom ready for his wedding,
like a day-breaking champion eager to run his course.
6He rises on one horizon, completing his circuit on the other,
warming lives and lands with his heat.
God’s Story in the Scriptures
7Yahweh’s Word # 19:7 Or “The Torah.” is perfect in every way;
how it revives our souls!
Yahweh’s laws lead us to truth,
and his ways change the simple into wise.
8Yahweh’s teachings are right and make us joyful;
his precepts are so pure!
Yahweh’s commands challenge us to keep close to his heart!
The revelation-light of his Word makes my spirit shine radiant.
9Yahweh’s decrees are trustworthy.
The fear of Yahweh is pure, enduring forever.
10The rarest treasures of life are found in his truth.
That’s why God’s Word is prized like others prize the finest gold.
Sweeter also than honey are his living words—
sweet words dripping from the honeycomb!
11For they warn us, your servants,
and keep us from following the wicked way,
giving a lifetime guarantee:
great success to every obedient soul!
12How would I discern the waywardness # 19:12 The word waywardness is taken from the Hebrew word for “errors.” of my heart?
Lord, forgive my hidden flaws whenever you find them.
13Keep cleansing me, God,
and keep me from my secret, selfish sins;
may they never rule over me!
For only then will I be free from fault
and remain innocent of rebellion.
14So may the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts,
and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing,
acceptable before your eyes, Yahweh,
my only Redeemer, my Protector. # 19:14 Or “my rock [of protection].”

Glory from Heaven and Torah
1For the music director, a psalm of David.
2The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky shows His handiwork.
3Day to day they speak, night to night they reveal knowledge.
4There is no speech, no words, where their voice goes unheard.
5Their voice has gone out to all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens He pitched a tent for the sun.
6It is like a bridegroom coming out of his bridal chamber. It is like a strong man rejoicing to run his course.
7It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other end. Nothing is hidden from its heat.
8The Torah of Adonai is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of Adonai is trustworthy, making the simple wise.
9The precepts of Adonai are right, giving joy to the heart. The mitzvot of Adonai are pure, giving light to the eyes.
10The fear of Adonai is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of Adonai are true and altogether righteous.
11They are more desirable than gold, yes, more than much pure gold! They are sweeter than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
12Moreover by them Your servant is warned. In keeping them there is great reward.
13Who can discern his errors? Cleanse me of hidden faults.
14Also keep Your servant from willful sins. May they not have dominion over me. Then I will be blameless, free from great transgression.
15May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer.
