Psalms 149

Triumphant Praise
1Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
It’s time to sing to God a brand-new song # 149:1 Or “a spontaneous song.”
so that all his holy people will hear how wonderful he is!
2May Israel be enthused with joy because of him,
and may the sons of Zion pour out
their joyful praises to their King.
3Break forth with dancing!
Make music and sing God’s praises with the rhythm of drums!
4For he enjoys his faithful lovers.
He adorns the humble with his beauty,
and he loves to give them victory.
5His godly lovers triumph in the glory of God,
and their joyful praises will rise even while others sleep.
6God’s high and holy praises fill their mouths,
for their shouted praises are their weapons of war!
7These warring weapons will bring vengeance
on the nations and every resistant power—
8to bind kings with chains and rulers with iron shackles.
9Praise-filled warriors will enforce
the judgment decreed against their enemies.
This is the honor he gives to all his godly lovers.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Psalm 149
1¶ Halelu-JAH. Sing unto the Lord a new song, let his praise be in the congregation of the merciful.
2Let Israel rejoice with his Maker; let the sons of Zion be joyful with their King.
3Let them praise his name in the dance; let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
4For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with saving health.
5The merciful shall be joyful with glory; they shall sing aloud upon their beds.
6¶ The high praises of God shall be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand,
7to execute vengeance upon the Gentiles and punishments upon the peoples,
8to imprison their kings with fetters and their nobles with chains of iron,
9to execute upon them the judgment written: this shall be glory for all his merciful ones. Halelu-JAH.
